Frazier golfers top West Mifflin in section opener
Frazier opened up Section 8-2A golf play with a 217-230 victory over West Mifflin on Monday at Grand View Golf Club.
The Commodores’ Caden Biddle shot a 40 on the front nine of the par 34 course for medalist honors.
The Titans’ Steve Tomko was one stroke off Biddle’s pace prior to Frazier’s Logan Solomon carding a 42. West Mifflin’s Isiah Krek and Jake Hoover each finished at 49.
The Commodores’ Tyler Jerico, Garrett Seich and John Sinclair all shot rounds of 45 to pull away from the Titans.
West Mifflin’s Rocco Sape finished with a 45. Teammate Colton Guenther came in following a round of 46.
The Titans’ Jake Hoover shot 49, but he birdied the fifth hole.
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 188, BENTWORTH 243 — The Raiders opened Section 3-2A play with a triumph over the Bearcats at Rohanna’s Golf Course.
Waynesburg’s Cole Headlee shot the low-round with a one-over-par 34. Teammates Matt Eisiminger and Jarett Tretinik each carded 36s.
The Raiders’ Carson Henry, who was the lone junior to score among a starting six of seniors, completed his nine holes with a round of 40.
Rykan Gustafson closed the home team’s scoring with a 42.
Bentworth freshman Cooper Piasecki led his team in scoring with a 41. Teammate David Miller shot 43 and Wyatt MacClain finished with a round of 49.
Eli Toth (54) and Brayden Bozovich (56) closed the scoring for the visitors.
MOUNT PLEASANT PLACES 3RD IN CHAIRMAN’S CUP — The Vikings boys and girls teams finished third among Class 2A schools in the 16th Annual Jerry Roman Memorial Chairman’s Cup at Cedarbrook Golf Course.
Mount Pleasant boys team came in with a score of 432 behind Westmont Hilltop (394) and Chartiers-Houston (425). The Vikings outscored Greensburg Central Catholic (524).
The girls from Mount Pleasant shot 427. Westmont Hilltop swept the Class 2A girls scores in winning the title with a cumulative total of 351. Hickory was second at 393.
Hunter Snyder led the Vikings in scoring with 77 over 18 holes. Teammate Austyn Gross was one shot behind at 78.
Quinn Painter and Ezra Bowman each carded 92s, and Matthew Labuda finished with a round of 93.
Allyn Christner led Mount Pleasant’s girls team with a round of 95. Morgan Miller shot 101 and Victoria Tepper came in at 103.
Layla Gratzinger rounded out the scoring at 128.
Peters Township swept the Class 3A boys and girls, and overall team scores. The Indians shot a 380 in boys action, while the girls totaled 327.
The girls competition scored the top four, while the boys factor in the top five on each team to calculate the team scores.
John Marshall’s Drew Marling won the boys individual title after firing a one-under-par 71 on the Gold Course at Cedarbrook.
South Fayette’s Hudson Vennum was second with a round of 73. Peters Township’s Kaden Holleran and Bethel Park’s Joey Boff tied for third place after carding 74s.
Westmont Hilltop’s Pierce Polacek and Chartiers-Houston’s Daniel Greely each shot 75 to tie for fifth place.
Central Dauphin’s Colin Micklewright, Peters Township’s John Blackwell and Westmont Hilltop’s Cullen Carson were in a three-way tie for seventh at 76.
The Indians’ Caden Benson also carded a round of 76, as Peters Township had three individuals in the top 10.
Morgantown’s Angela Yao won the individual girls championship after shooting a round of 73. Westmont Hilltop’s Gabby Filia was second at 75 and Peters Township’s Betty Glyptis placed third after carding a 79.
Pine-Richland’s Siena Smith, South Fayette’s Emma Nickolas and the Indians’ Annie Higgins all fired a round of 80.
The Lions’ Olivia Valentino completed her 18 holes at 80.
