Uniontown swept Tuesday’s Section 5-2A meet over Ringgold inside the Red Raiders’ Natatorium on the campus of Uniontown Area High School.

The Red Raiders earned a 94-70 victory, while the Lady Red Raiders had an 88-77 triumph.

The Uniontown boys finished section play at 5-1. The Red Raiders’ lone setback was to Elizabeth Forward. The Lady Red Raiders finished at 4-2 with their losses coming to the Lady Warriors and Trinity.

Uniontown’s senior duo of Hannah Foster and Joss Rutter each won two individual races and made up half of the Lady Red Raiders’ winning 200-yard medley and freestyle relays.

Foster won the 50 freestyle (27.29) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.62). Her time in the 100 breaststroke beat the WPIAL-qualifying standard for Class 2A girls, but Foster had already qualified with a time of 1:12.49, which currently puts her as the 21st seed in the WPIAL championship meet.

Rutter won the 200 IM (individual medley) in 2:26.17, which bests her previous WPIAL cut of 2:26.52. She topped the field in the 100 backstroke (107.80).

Rutter will have to choose an event not to participate in between the 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 200 IM when she, and her teammates, compete in the WPIAL championship meet on Feb. 26 and 27 at Joseph C. Trees Pool on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.

Rutter is the 29th seed in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:05.80. She is 33rd in the 50 freestyle (26.23).

Foster and Rutter were joined by Addison Caruso and Eleanor Carei in the 200 medley relay, which Uniontown won in 2:03.08. The quartet is bound for the district meet after swimming 2:02.35 earlier in the season.

Ninth grader Shelbie Covert joined Caruso, Foster and Rutter, as the Lady Red Raiders swam a WPIAL-qualifying time of 1:48.50 in winning the 200 freestyle relay.

Caruso, who is also in ninth grade, won the 100 butterfly in 1:09.19. She has qualified for the event in the district meet with a time of 1:06.68. Caruso will swim at the WPIAL meet in the 200 IM, as she has a season best of 2:26.24.

Abigail Horner, Destiny Jones, Andi Zehala and Covert won the 400 freestyle relay in 5:05.27.

Carei, a sophomore, won the diving competition. She will compete for district gold on Feb. 20 at North Allegheny High School in Wexford. Carei broke her own school record with a score of 231.10 in Uniontown’s meet at cross-town rival Laurel Highlands last Thursday. The mark hasn’t been updated on the WPIAL website as of Wednesday afternoon, but Carei would be the second seed behind Hampton senior Gabriella Elk, who has a season-best score of 275.

The Lady Rams’ Emily Carpeal won the 500 freestyle in 5:38.18, which is a WPIAL cut and her top time in the event this season. Carpeal topped the field in the 200 freestyle (2:11.82). Ringgold’s Morgan Davis won the 100 freestyle in 1:04.35.

In boys action, Red Raider junior Chase King won the 50 and 500 freestyle in WPIAL-qualifying times of 23.57 and 5:20.14. King had not qualified in the 50 prior, but he had in the 500, although he dropped his previous season best of 5:20.46. Teammate Ivan Rutter was second in the 500 with a time of 5:27.86, but his time was good enough for a WPIAL cut. Rutter, a sophomore, has also qualified for the district meet in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:58.88.

King and fellow junior Donte Rugola have qualified for the WPIAL in the 200 freestyle. King is tied for the 24th seed at 1:54.99. Rugola, who won against the Rams in 2:00.37, has a season-best time of 1:57.75 in the event.

Senior Ethan Syner led off the home team’s 200 medley relay that finished in a WPIAL cut of 1:52.61. The quartet consisted of King, Rutter, Syner and Patrick Foster. Uniontown had already met the WPIAL standard earlier in the season with a time of 1:52.15.

King, Rugola, Rutter and Logan Davis won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:39.58. The squad swam a WPIAL standard of 1:39.28 earlier this season. Davis, Rugola, Syner and EJ Dolfi topped the field in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:54.36, but the result wasn’t factored into the team scoring. The Red Raiders have already qualified for the district meet in 3:42.48.

Foster, a freshman, won the 100 breaststroke in 1:08.31, but the victory didn’t count in the team scoring. He will compete at Trees Pool in the event with a season-best time of 1:07.10. Foster is currently the 21st seed.

Kavon Novak won the boys diving competition for the home team.

Albert Gallatin senior Aaron Moccaldi swam as an independent. He has qualified for the district meet in the 500 freestyle (5:25.72) and 200 IM (2:15.17).

Ringgold freshman Randolph Noll bested his top time in the 200 IM with a swim of 2:12.87 against Uniontown. Noll bested his previous WPIAL cut of 2:15.09. Noll also beat his top time of 52.50 with a sprint of 52.50 in winning the 100 freestyle.

Teammate and fellow ninth grader Ethan Rahr topped the field in the 100 backstroke in a time of 1:02.71. Rahr has qualified for the district championships in the event.

Korben Andrews rounded out the Rams’ youth movement, as the freshman won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.76. Andrews had qualified in the event with a time of 59.77.
