Oakland sweeps FCBL doubleheader at Mill Run

Mill Run was hindered by 10 unearned runs in Game 1 prior to being shut out in Game 2, as Oakland, Md., swept a doubleheader on Sunday at Mill Run Park in Fayette County Baseball League (FCBL) play.

Mill Run’s Bill Bendis allowed just one earned run in an 11-5 setback in Game 1. He yielded seven hits with four strikeouts and three walks over seven innings.

Oakland (5-3) took control of the first game following a seven-run fourth inning that extended its lead to 10-2. Mill Run (0-4) scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth before the visitors added a final run in the sixth frame.

Vincent Aloi hit a two-run home run to close the scoring for Oakland in the fourth. Teammate Alex Kennell added a two-run double in the frame. Wenkai Campbell drove in two runs with a single to right field.

Cameron Lynch had an RBI triple and crossed home plate on Michael Thor’s single to right field in the first inning.

The Millers scored two runs in the bottom of the third when Lane Smiley scored when Josh Burns hit into a fielder’s choice, and Logan Kemp drew a walk with the bases loaded to plate Kace Shearer.

Mill Run’s Alek Wagor scored on an error in the bottom of the fourth frame prior to Shearer crossing home plate on Cade Warrick’s base hit to center field and Smiley driving in Burns with a base hit to left field in the fifth. Smiley doubled to right field in the sixth inning.

The combination of Andrew Catone and Lynch threw a six-hit shutout in Oakland’s 3-0 triumph in Game 2.

Catone allowed four hits with five strikeouts and three walks over the first four to earn the victory. Lynch yielded two hits with six strikeouts and one walk to close out the game.

Anthony DeMarco took the loss, but had a quality start in allowing three earned runs on seven hits over seven innings. He didn’t record a strikeout and walked five.

Warrick led Mill Run with two singles in three at-bats. Travis Bevard, Burns, Shearer and Smiley had one base hit apiece.

Jake France scored the winning run in the top of the third inning when he crossed home plate on Cameron Goble’s double to left field.

Thor scored on Cantone’s bunt base hit in the sixth frame before Goble drove in Mason Everhart with a sacrifice flyout to center field.

The Oaks’ Jacob Nething doubled to right field in the fourth.
