Michael Novotny had four hits to help lead Geibel Catholic to a 10-5 win at Springdale in non-section baseball action on Friday.

The Gators’ John Hess broke a tie with a three-run double to right field in the top of the fifth inning that scored Novotny, Seth Dolan and Zane Hixson for a 6-3 lead. Dolan walked to lead off the inning, Novotny singled to left field and Hixson the center to set the stage for Hess, who scored Geibel’s seventh run on an error.

Eahn Stevenson doubled and tripled for the Gators. The sophomore had two RBIs. Dolan, Hixson and Kade Yoders had two hits apiece for the visitors. Hixson and Stevenson drove in two runs apiece, and Novotny had one RBI.

SOFTBALL

UNIONTOWN 10, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 — Juliet White hit a two-run home run in the first inning, and that was all the offense the Lady Red Raiders’ Alivia Noah needed in a non-section victory in the season opener on Friday at Bailey Park.

White hit a deep fly ball to centerfield that more than cleared the outfield fence for a 2-0 lead after Katie White singled with one out.

Juliet White added two more RBIs, as she singled home Emmaleigh Noah on both hits.

Alivia Noah allowed no runs on two hits with four strikeouts and one walk over five innings. She had two hits and drove in three runs. The game was called after five due to the 10-run rule.

The Lady Colonials threatened in the top of the fifth when Aurora Clark walked, advanced to second on a groundout, and third on Hannah Dunham’s single to center, but Lauren White made a fine play at third base and fired a perfect strike to Sincere Dunlap to end the game on a ball hit by Laney Gibson.

Emmaleigh Noah and Lauren White had two hits apiece. Noah had one RBI.
