Uniontown track & field sweeps Clairton

Ellie Carei won three individual events to lead Uniontown to a 110-11 triumph over Clairton in non-section girls track & field action on Tuesday at Bill Power Stadium.

In the boys contest, Ezra Batovsky and Locklan McCune each won two individual events to lead the Red Raiders to a 97-48 victory over the Bears.

Carei was victorious in the pole vault (9-0), long jump (15-9) and 400-meter dash (1:06).

Batovsky won the 1,600-meter run in 4:59.60 and the 3,200 in 10:42, while McCune topped the field in the 300 hurdles with a time of 47.33, and soared 35-9 for victory in the triple jump.

The Uniontown duo of Leighana Cicconi (100/200) and Arrington Scott (800/1,600) won two races. Cicconi broke the tape in 13.72 and 29.96, while Scott finished in 2:45.70 and 6:20.

The Lady Red Raiders’ Madisyn Wood Crudup won the javelin (52-0) and shot put (22-9). Teammate Shayla Gritts won the discus (84-0). Uniontown earned 26 of 27 possible team points in the throwing events.

The teams traded wins in the hurdles with Rhiannon Feather topping the field for the home team in the 300 hurdles (59.50) and Journei Williams breaking the tape for the visitors in the 100 hurdles (21.33).

Carei, Feather, Scott and Addison Caruso won the 1,600 relay in 5:44. Arrington and Peyton Scott were joined by Sorcha Best and Sadie Hostetler in winning the 3,200 relay in 13:35.86.

Cicconi ran the anchor leg for the Lady Red Raiders (1-0) in the 400 relay. She was joined by Nadyia Marilungo, Londyn Harris and Azhiyah Belt in crossing the finish line first with a time of 56.26.

Uniontown (1-0) opened the boys meet strong on the track with a victory in the 3,200 relay. The quartet of Matthew Page, Batovsky, Logan Davis and Ethan Syner finished in a time of 9:19.26.

Uniontown’s David Settles won the 110 hurdles in 21.41, but Clairton’s Mikey Ruffin crossed the finish line in 11.04 to win the 100-meter dash.

Willow Smith won the 400 for the home team in 57.75, while the Bears’ Javin Nichols won the 800 in 2:20.50.

The Red Raiders’ Steele Stash won the 200 in 23.85.

Uniontown won the high jump and pole vault, as Nyzeh Thomas cleared 5-6 and Max Ludy vaulted 7-0. The Bears avoided the sweep in the jumps with Rheyjohn Williams taking first in the long jump (18-9½).

Clairton won two of the three throwing events, as Avaughn Pompey won the shot put (39-9) and D’Kota Harris-Stevenson the javelin (96-3). The Red Raiders’ Tyler Tibbe won the discus (114-7).

The teams split in the 400 and 1,600 relays. Stash was joined by Tayshawn Jackson, Christon O’Connor and Zyon Hopes to win the 400 in a time of 46.72, but the Bears broke the tape in 4:11 for the victory in the 1,600 relay.

BOYS: WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 117, BENTWORTH 33; WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 122, CHARLEROI 28; WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 137, WEST GREENE 13 — The Raiders swept a Section 6-2A meet over the Bearcats, Cougars and Pioneers on Tuesday at Raider Field.

Waynesburg’s Jack and Nate Ricciuti each won two individual events for the home team. Jack won the 200-meter dash (24.55) and high jump (6-02) and Nate was victorious in the 300 hurdles (43.36) and long jump (18-7.50).

The Raiders won the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relays in 45.15, 4:01.21 and 10:06.15.

Carmichaels didn’t field a team to score, but the Mikes’ Canon Bupka won the 100-meter dash in 11.69.

The Pioneers’ Joel Grimes won the 1,600 in 5:12. The Raiders’ Will Maxwell topped the field in the 3,200 with a time of 11:36.24.

Hudson Bennett (triple jump/36-1) and Mason Schroyer (pole vault/13-0) helped the home team to a sweep in the jumping events. Waynesburg’s Caden Fowler (discus/119.10), Andy Mahle (javelin/138-9) and Duncan Barto (shot put/39-11) swept the field events.

GIRLS: BENTWORTH 84, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 52; BENTWORTH 115, CHARLEROI 17; BENTWORTH 89, WEST GREENE 35; WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 96, WEST GREENE 22; WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 105, CHARLEROI 22 — The Lady Bearcats’ Jesse Laskey won all three distance races in helping her team to a sweep over the Lady Raiders, Lady Cougars and Lady Pioneers in Section 6-2A action on Tuesday at Raider Field.

Laskey won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 in times of 2:48.82, 6:21.17 and 13:58.98 to add 15 points to her team’s total.

West Greene’s Eryka Hackney swept the sprints, as she won the 100-meter dash in 13.29, the 200 in 27.36 and the 400 in 1:04.77.

Waynesburg’s Railey Bochna won the high (4-8), long (14-8.50) and triple jumps (29-10). Teammate Peyton Cowell won the discus (63-9) and shot put (28-9).

BOYS: CONNELLSVILLE 100, ALBERT GALLATIN 39; CONNELLSVILLE 93, BELLE VERNON 47; BELLE VERNON 88, ALBERT GALLATIN 42 — Ryan Kent scored 15 points for the Leopards in winning the discus, javelin and shot put, but the Falcons were able to come away with a sweep over Belle Vernon and the Colonials on Monday in Section 2-3A action at Albert Gallatin.

Kent set a personal record (PR) in the shot put with a throw of 52-7. He threw 146-10 to win the discus and 128-6 for victory in the javelin.

The Falcons’ Kamden Anderson won the 100-meter dash in 12.41 and the 200 in 24.41. Teammate Finn Jones won the 400 in 1:01.22.

Connellsville’s Jake Pritts topped the field in the 800 and 1,600 with times of 2:22.84 and 5:01.92.

Belle Vernon’s Leonidas Soto crossed the finish line in 11:02.45 to win the 3,200.

The Falcons’ Zachary Franks won the 110 hurdles in 18.39. The Leopards’ Eli Kolowitz earned a victory in the 300 hurdles (50.50).

Connellsville swept the 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relays in times of 47.80, 4:09:80 and 9:39.09.

The Falcons’ Tyler Burkus cleared 5-6 to win the high jump.

Albert Gallatin’s Mekhi Belt and Adam Pegg won the long and triple jumps. Belt won with a leap of 18-5 and Pegg soared for a PR of 36-9.5.

GIRLS: BELLE VERNON 83, CONNELLSVILLE 53; BELLE VERNON 99, ALBERT GALLATIN 33; CONNELLSVILLE 99, ALBERT GALLATIN 26 — Brooklyn Steeber pulled off the distance sweep in helping the Lady Leopards to a Section 2-3A victory over the Lady Colonials and Lady Falcons on Monday at Albert Gallatin High School.

Steeber, a sophomore who has twice qualified for the state meet in cross country, won the 800-meter run in 2:42.47, the 1,600 in 5:45.32 and the 3,200 in 14:03.59.

Teammate Skylar Salay topped the field in the discus (91-6) and javelin (96-4).

Belle Vernon’s Gina Sacaramucci won the triple jump in 29-3.5. The Lady Leopards’ Mia Roebuck won the high jump (4-0).

Belle Vernon (2-0, 2-0) won the 1,600 and 3,200 relays in times of 5:07.42 and 11:40.69. The Lady Leopards’ Courtney Martin won the 300 hurdles in 54.85.

Albert Gallatin’s Madison Rockwell won the 100 and 200-meter dashes in 14.47 and 30.29. Rockwell anchored the Lady Colonials’ 400-relay team to a victory in 57.93. Khloe Brown, Korina Samuel and Alyvia Long ran the first three legs.

Connellsville’s Sophie Bandemer won the 400 in 1:09.59. Teammate Sophia Morrison won the 100 hurdles in 18.12.

The Lady Falcons’ Sarah Tinkey (shot put/31-11) and Rylee Leasher (long jump/15-8) had individual victories.

SOFTBALL

LAUREL HIGHLANDS 6, RINGGOLD 3 — Payton Senge recorded 15 strikeouts and the Mustangs scored the winning runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a victory in the Section 2-4A opener for both teams at Laurel Highlands High School.

Senge allowed three earned runs on four hits over seven innings. In addition to her strikeouts, she only walked one batter.

The Mustangs’ Liv McClelland had three hits, including a triple, knocked in two runs, and scored one run. Teammate Chloe Komacko had three hits as well, and drove in a run while scoring twice.

Kendra Pitts had a two-run single in the sixth inning for the home team.

Laurel Highlands’ Aubrey Speelman had a hit and scored twice. Teammate Kayla Howell chipped in with a base hit and scored one run.

The Lady Rams’ Addison Jenkins hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, and also doubled in three at-bats.

TRINITY 7, ALBERT GALLATIN 2 — The Lady Colonials scored two runs late, but the Lady Hillers had built up enough of a lead to earn a victory in Section 4-5A play at Albert Gallatin.

Bella Lukehart and Mikayla Shea each had an RBI for the Lady Colonials (0-1, 0-2). Teammates Jenna Myers and Ellie Seese singled and scored. Myers had two strikeouts and walked two. She allowed seven runs, but only three were earned.

Madelyn Hall doubled and Emma Starr homered for the Lady Hillers (1-0, 5-0). Starr, who had two hits, blasted a ball over the fence in centerfield for a two-run shot in the sixth.

Ally Krenzelak had two hits for the visitors. Teammate Elora Friend had three.

Maddie Ray started for Trinity, and didn’t allow a run or hit with five strikeouts and one walk, but gave way to winning pitcher Gabby Humphries in the fourth inning. Humphries yielded two runs (one earned) on one hit with nine strikeouts and one walk.

WEST GREENE 9, CAMERON, W.VA., 4 — The Lady Pioneers used a four-run second inning to take control over the Lady Dragons in non-section play at Cameron, W.Va.

Sammi Zimmerman earned the pitching victory for West Greene (1-0) with six strikeouts and three walks.

Caitlin Whyte doubled, tripled, knocked in a run and also scored in her first varsity action. Teammate Kendra Tharp had two RBIs.

Kylee Davis added two hits and an RBI for the Lady Pioneers. Freshman Josie Mason had two hits and three RBIs.

Katie Brudnock had two hits and scored twice for the visitors. Khyler Davis added a run-scoring double. West Greene’s Emmaline Beazell was 1 for 2 and scored twice.

WEST MIFFLIN 7, BELLE VERNON 5 — The Lady Leopards had their seventh-inning rally fall short in a setback to the Lady Titans in Section 2-4A play at Belle Vernon.

Belle Vernon’s Kaylee Sypolt was a triple away from the cycle and knocked in three runs. Teammates Addy Newman and Bella Williams had two hits apiece.

The Lady Leopards’ Paisley Hibner had a double.

Belle Vernon dropped to 0-1 in section play and 1-2 overall.

West Mifflin improved to 1-0 and 4-0.
