Red Raiders down Colonials in section play

Elim Martin had two base hits, drove in two runs and pitched an inning in Uniontown’s 5-2 victory over Albert Gallatin on Monday in Section 2-4A play at German-Masontown Park.

The Red Raiders improved to 1-2 in section play and 1-2 overall, while the Colonials dropped to 0-3 and 0-4.

Uniontown scored one run apiece in the first and third innings, two in the fourth and one in the sixth. Albert Gallatin scored its runs in the fourth and seventh.

Brayden Hinzy started and won the game on the mound for the Red Raiders. He allowed one earned run on four hits over six innings with five strikeouts and three walks. Hinzy had to leave after the sixth because he reached the pitch-count limit of 100.

Hinzy had a single and drove in two runs.

The Colonials’ Ben Lilley, Clay Smith, Kenyon Sutton and Evan Weakland each had base hits. Colton Chipps drove in one of Albert Gallatin’s runs.

ELIZABETH FORWARD 5, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 4 — Nate Grimm hit a walk-off single for the Warriors in a Section 2-4A triumph at Elizabeth Forward.

The Warriors (3-0, 5-0) opened the scoring with a run in the second inning before the Mustangs (0-1, 0-4) scored one run in the third and fourth frames, and two in the fifth for a 4-1 lead. EF scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie things up at 4-4.

JB Crovak doubled and Jacob Peterson hit a three-run home run for the Warriors. Peterson added a single.

Aiden Milsom, Ramaree Morgan, Braylon Schoch, Cage Senchur and Sevi Vecchiolla each had a hit for Laurel Highlands.

Milsom, Morgan, Schoch and Senchur had one RBI apiece.

WEST MIFFLIN 5, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 2 — The Titans built up a four-run lead and hung on for a non-section victory over the Raiders in non-section play at West Mifflin High School.

C.J. Corwin and Austin Surber each had two hits for Waynesburg Central. Grant Pack doubled for the visitors. Corwin and Brayden Badila had the two RBIs for the Raiders (1-4).

Rocco Sapp doubled and Caden Willis tripled for West Mifflin (4-2). Sapp had four RBIs.

SOFTBALL

BROWNSVILLE 3, WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 2 — Zaydee Downer hit a three-run homer to rally the Lady Falcons to a victory over the Lady Raiders in a Section 4-2A contest at Waynesburg.

Emma Leigh Bailey and Jordyn Davis singled to set the stage for Downer’s blast, which came on an 0-1 count, and went over the right-field fence.

The Raiders’ Madi Price drove in her team’s runs with a double to right field in the fourth. Kalee Piper reached on an error and Eva Pester singled before scoring on Price’s hit.

Ava Clark pitched Brownsville (1-0, 3-1) to victory after allowing two runs (none earned) on three hits over seven innings. She had 13 strikeouts and walked one.

Gina Tedrow took the loss, but the Waynesburg pitcher yielded three runs on four hits over seven frames with 16 strikeouts and two walks.

The Lady Raiders dropped to 0-1 in the section and 3-2 overall.
