Multiple local athletes earn top seeds for WPIAL T&F Championships

Eight track & field athletes are seeded No. 1 in their respective events for today’s WPIAL Individual Championships at Slippery Rock University’s Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Laurel Highlands senior Diondra Brown is the top seed in the Class 3A girls long jump with a leap of 18-7.75. She is the No. 5 seed in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.35, and is sixth in the 200 at 25.82.

Geibel Catholic’s Emma Larkin tops the field of qualifying times in the girls 300 hurdles for Class 2A with a time of 45.47. She is the third seed in the 400 in 57.87. Larkin also qualified for the 800-meter run in 2:31.08.

Connellsville’s Glen Strickler will throw last in the boys shot put in Class 3A after qualifying with a toss of 57-4. He is 12th in the discus (145-2).

Belle Vernon’s Ryan Kent leads the field in the discus (179-6). The senior is second in the shot put in 57-0.

Beth-Center’s Deakyn DeHoet is the No. 1 seed in the boys 200-meter dash in Class 2A with a time of 21.75. The Jefferson-Morgan student who competes for the Bulldogs as part of a co-op is the second seed in the 100 with a time of 10.62.

Waynesburg Central freshman Nate Ricciuti leads the field in the boys Class 2A 110 hurdles in 14.62. He is the fifth seed in the 300 hurdles in 41.26.

Mount Pleasant’s Gage Sowers is the top seed in the boys Class 2A pole vault (14-7).

Southmoreland’s Megan Mehall is the No. 1 seed in the Class 2A girls 800 after running 2:15.84 during the regular season. Mehall is the third seed in the 1,600 in 5:07.41.

Three qualifiers will represent Uniontown in Class 3A with David Settles (110 hurdles/22nd/15.66), Kyler Tibbe (Discus/13th/142-5) and Eleanor Carei (PV/23rd/9-10) competing in their first district championship meet.

Laurel Highlands’ Neela Hill is fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5-4. Teammate Sahayla Dues is seventh in the 100 hurdles in 15.05.

The Mustangs’ Bella Baker is the 14th seed in the 800 and 1,600 with times of 2:23.25 and 5:19.08.

Laurel Highlands’ Grant Brambley is seeded seventh in the Class 3A boys javelin with a throw of 173-4. Teammate Josh Reed is 22nd in 152-6. Reed is 20th in the pole vault after clearing 13-0 this year.

The Mustangs’ Cole Radcliffe has qualified for the triple jump after soaring 42-8 in the regular season to enter the meet in 16th place.

Albert Gallatin’s Mekhi Belt jumped 21-1 in the long jump to qualify in Class 3A boys.

Connellsville’s Zach Franks is 16th in the pole vault at 13-4. Teammate Tyler Burkus enters the field in the high jump at 6-0.

Franks’ sister, Larissa, is 20th in the pole vault (10-0).

The Falcons’ Sophia Morrison is 10th in the 100 hurdles (15.32).

Connellsville’s Sarah Tinkey qualified in the shot put (16th/33-5). Rylee Leasher rounds out the Falcons’ competitors in the long jump (11th/17-5).

Brownsville’s Aijanae Foster is the third seed in the 100 hurdles (15.35) and fourth in the high jump (5-4) in girls Class 2A. The Falcons’ 400 relay team qualified in 51.93.

Brownsville’s Alexa Lewandosky is the 10th seed in the discus (109-2).

The Falcons’ Levi Grogan has qualified in two events in Class 2A boys in the 100 with a time of 11.19 and the long jump with a leap of 21-0.25. Brownsville’s 400-meter relay team is seeded 12th in 44.28.

The Raider duo of Jackson Brunell and Mason Schroyer are seeded second and sixth in the pole vault in Class 2A with heights of 14-0 and 13-3. Teammate Jack Ricciuti is the fourth seed in the high jump (6-4).

Waynesburg Central’s Caden Fowler is fifth in the discus (141-8). The Raiders’ Mason Mankey is the fifth seed in the 110 hurdles (15.62).

Waynesburg’s Landon Darr (300 hurdles/10th/42.08), Duncan Barto (Shot put/12th/44-8) and Andy Mahle (Javelin/12th/151-7) will compete today. The Raiders’ 3,200 relay team qualified as the 15th seed in 8:47.64.

Waynesburg’s Railey Bochna qualified in the girls Class 2A high jump (4-11). Teammate Madison Blair is the ninth seed in the pole vault (9-3).

California’s Carter Kent qualified for the boys Class 2A championships in the 800 and 1,600 with times of 1:59.25 and 4:28.37. Kent is seeded fifth in the 800 and sixth in the 1,600.

The Trojans’ Carter Frank is sixth in the discus (138-10). Teammates Quinn Barbero will compete in the pole vault (12-0) and javelin (149-10).

Addison Frank (TJ/34-0), Hayley Gibson (SP/34-0) and Lila Mitchell (HJ/4-10) have qualified for the Class 2A girls meet.

The Leopards have four individual qualifiers competing in six different events in addition to the 3,200 relay team in Class 3A girls.

Courtney Martin is in the 100 and 300 hurdles at 15.75 and 47.53.

Skylar Salay will look for a spot in the state championships in the javelin (116-2) and shot put (32-9).

Brooklyn Steeber is in the 1,600 with a time of 5:23.45. Gia Dusi will compete in the pole vault (10-0).

West Greene’s Eryka Hackney will race in the 200 and 400 after posting times of 26.27 and 1:02.65 during the regular season.

Mehall will be joined by five Scotties in the girls Class 2A meet, as Addie Billheimer (SP/34-4), Hannah Conn (TJ/34-3.25), Morgan Riddle (TJ/33-7.5), Emilee Blaze (HJ/5-0) and Caiya Brozeski (300 hurdles/50.62).

Southmoreland’s 400, 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams have also qualified in times of 52.12, 4:12.18 and 10:48.26.

Mount Pleasant’s Bryson Bankosh is the second seed in the boys Class 2A triple jump (43-9.25). He is 11th in the long jump (21-4.5).

Southmoreland’s Justin Hribal is third in the shot put (49-7) and fourth in the discus (143). Teammate Dawson Wolfe is fourth in the shot put (48-8) and ninth in the discus (137-9).

The Scotties’ Tremaine Grant is in the 110 hurdles (16.78).

The Vikings’ Andrew Brodak (SP/9th/44-11.5), Damien Ohler (800/13th/2:03.38) and Tyke Snyder (300 hurdles/13th/42.56) have qualified for today’s action. Mount Pleasant’s 1,600 relay team will compete after posting a best time of 3:34.01 this season.

Beth-Center’s Daniel Duncan (21-1) will compete in the long jump.

The top five finishers in Class 2A and the top four in Class 3A in each event for boys and girls will automatically qualify for the state meet on May 22 and 23 at Shippensburg University’s Seth Grove Stadium. Those who place six through eight in Class 2A and five through eight in Class 3A will earn a berth in the state championship meet if they hit the state-qualifying-standard in their event.
