Charleroi sweeps FCBL doubleheader
Charleroi earned back-to-back shutouts to sweep a doubleheader over Oakland on Saturday in Fayette County Baseball League action at Charleroi’s Veterans Memorial Field.
The Magicians earned a 2-0 victory in Game 1 and a 3-0 triumph in Game 2.
Lorenzo Glasser pitched a four-hit shutout over seven innings for the pitching win in Game 1. He had 11 strikeouts and walked four.
Josiah Fisher and Ashton Ray combined for a three hitter in Game 2. Fisher allowed three singles over six innings. He had seven strikeouts and seven walks. Ray came in for Fisher in the seventh after a single and a walk by the Oaks (2-0). Ray induced a flyout to center field and recorded back-to-back strikeouts for the save.
Tyler Sankovich singled and stole home for a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of Game 1. Chad Behrendt scored the second run when Kolten Smittle walked with the bases loaded.
The Magicians (2-0) scored three runs in the sixth inning in Game 2. Tyler Sankovich walked to lead off the frame, and after Colton Brightwell reached first base safely following an error, Chad Behrendt loaded the bases with a bunt single to third base.
Sankovich and Brightwell scored on Remington Lessman’s single to center field. Behrendt crossed home plate on Manny Stich’s base hit to center.
BELLE VERNON 12, SMITHFIELD-FAIRCHANCE 5 — Belle Vernon scored six runs in the first inning and earned an American Legion Baseball victory over Smithfield-Fairchance on Friday at John DiVirgilio Sports Complex in Rostraver Township.
Vito Francia and Cole Matusik each doubled for Belle Vernon (1-0). Teammate Landon Jackson tripled, singled and drove in three runs. Francia had two hits and two RBIs. Aiden Shaffer singled and knocked in two runs.
Nico Edwards and Ben Lilley singled and drove in one run apiece for Smithfield-Fairchance (2-1).
