By Jonathan Guth 3 min read

Ellie Haddad had a brace and Brownsville earned a 2-0 victory at Springdale on Wednesday in non-section girls soccer play.

Avianna Hernandez and Gloria Kovscek had the assists on Haddad’s tallies.

The Dynamos (2-2-0, 3-5-1) put 17 shots on target, but all were turned aside by senior keeper Ava Rohland, who earned the clean sheet.

The Falcons (3-1-0, 11-1-0) have two Section 2-1A next week, as they host California (1-4-0, 1-6-1) on Monday and Bentworth (4-0-0, 9-1-0) on Wednesday at Redstone Field in Republic. Both matches are scheduled to kickoff at 7 p.m.

The Bearcats handed Brownsville its lone setback this season in a 2-1 battle on Sept. 16 at Bentworth.

BETH-CENTER 4, CALIFORNIA 2 — The Bulldogs earned their first Section 2-1A victory at California Area High School.

Beth-Center (1-2-1, 3-6-2) had four different goal scorers, as Alexis Dorsey, Bella Fischer, Ana Giovanelli and Kendall Welsh four the back of the net.

Leah Hartley recorded a brace for the Trojans (1-4-1, 1-6-1).

Keira Lamp made 10 saves to earn the win in goal.

The Bulldogs avenged a 2-1 setback to California in the first meeting of the season between the clubs on Sept. 9.

BENTWORTH 3, CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 0 — The Bearcats swept the season series over the Buccaneers following a section shutout in Class 2-1A action at Chartiers-Houston High School.

Bentworth won the first meeting, 6-0, on Sept. 9 at Bentworth Athletic Field in Ellsworth. The defending WPIAL Class A champions improved to 4-0-0 in section play and 9-1-0. The Bearcats’ lone loss this season was a 2-1 setback to Class 3A Belle Vernon (5-0-1, 7-1-3). The Leopards are leading Section 3-3A.

Megan Keturakis had two goals and Bella Moyer scored.

Bentworth had a 1-0 halftime edge.

The Bearcats had a solid performance from their backline and midfielders, as keeper Julia Brandau didn’t have to make any spectacular stops in earning the clean sheet.

Bentworth was patient in its attacks and capitalized on some of the Buccaneers’ miscues.

“I think this was one of our better performances of the season,” Bentworth coach Tyler Hamstra said. “We really looked strong and attacked with numbers. We put constant pressure on the goal, but Chartiers-Houston played well tonight. I was very happy with the play from our midfielders and defenders tonight.”

Chartiers-Houston dropped to 1-3-1 in section play and 6-5-1 overall.

The Bearcats have a match in hand in the section, as their first game with Beth-Center was postponed.

“We are 4-0 in the section with a game in hand on the table,” Hamstra said.

THOMAS JEFFERSON 1, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 — The Jaguars were able to gain some redemption after a loss to the Colonials earlier in the season in a Section 3-3A victory at Thomas Jefferson.

Albert Gallatin (1-4-0, 5-5-0) edged Thomas Jefferson (3-2-1, 4-6-2) on Sept. 10 in a 3-2 victory at Albert Gallatin Stadium in York Run.

In other local action, Connellsville dropped a 3-2 match to Armstrong.
