Seton Hill blanks Vulcans in PSAC play
Seton Hill scored the first points of Saturday’s game against California on a safety, which seemed appropriate for the Griffins, who pitched a 29-0 shutout over the Vulcans at Offutt Field in Greensburg.
Seton Hill’s safety occurred with 5:25 remaining in the second quarter prior to Timothy Gaynor’s 13-yard run for a touchdown and Rayyan Bataineh connected on the first of three extra points for a 9-0 lead with 3:02 left before halftime.
Kai Holmes pulled in an 11-yard touchdown reception from Boden St. Marie and the Griffins (2-3, 1-1 PSAC) extended their advantage to 15-0 with 10:41 left in the fourth quarter.
Christian Yanosko pushed Seton Hill’s lead to three touchdowns on a nine-yard run and Bataineh booted the extra point for a 22-0 lead with 4:38 remaining in the contest.
Gaynor scored the game’s final touchdown on an 11-yard run with 1:54 left. Gaynor rushed for 105 yards on 26 carries and scored twice.
St Marie was 20 of 32 for 337 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. He rushed for 45 yards on six carries.
The Griffins’ Jayden Llanos caught seven passes for 119 yards. Teammate Ryan Keith pulled in four receptions for 71 yards.
Jefferson-Morgan graduate Deakyn DeHoet returned two kickoffs for 54 yards, and a long of 36. The California freshman returned two punts for 25 yards. He had a long of 27.
Tajuan Bandy and Wilfredo Diaz each had an interception for the Vulcans (2-3, 0-2 PSAC). Diaz had 12 total tackles and a pass breakup.
Seton Hill limited California to 29 passing yards and a net of (-7) in rushing for 22 total yards.
