Beth-Center blanks Carmichaels to remain unbeaten
Carmichaels put up a fight, but Beth-Center’s defense was too strong in a 24-0 victory on Friday night in Class 1A Tri-County South Conference play at Carmichaels High School.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in the conference and 7-0 overall. The Mikes dropped to 0-4 in TCS action and 1-6 across all competitions.
Enzo Brown opened the scoring for Beth-Center with a 50-yard touchdown run at 2:27 of the first quarter and Hunter Bobbs connected on the first of three PATs for a 7-0 lead.
Bobbs converted on a 32-yard field goal with 5:46 remaining in the second quarter for a 10-0 advantage. He closed the scoring in the first half after pulling in a 46-yard touchdown reception from Chase Bebout with 1:06 left in the second period and kicked the extra point for a 17-0 lead. Bobbs caught four passes for 72 yards and Bebout was 11 of 17 for 171 yards.
Bobbs returned an interception 26 yards for a touchdown with 10:02 remaining in the third quarter. Teammates Jaxson Corazzi, Antonio Davis and Daniel Duncan all had one interception apiece. Davis led the Bulldogs in tackles with 10.
Brown gained 97 yards on 11 carries and pulled in four receptions for 72 yards.
KC Shook led Carmichaels in rushing with 45 yards on 23 carries.
FRAZIER 48, MAPLETOWN 0 — Brady Secrest threw four touchdown passes and the Commodores blanked the Maples in Class 1A Tri-County South Conference action at Commodore Field in Perryopolis.
Frazier improved to 3-1 in the conference and 4-3 overall.
Secrest was 14 of 15 for 244 yards and he gained 68 yards on nine carries. He threw two touchdown passes to Brandon Gardner, one to Brant Alekson and one to Nico Anderson.
Gardner pulled in scoring receptions of 16 and 77 yards, Alekson’s went for 15 yards and Anderson went 18 yards into the end zone.
Gardner caught three passes for 105 yards.
Gardner made his mark on defense with a 65-yard interception return for a touchdown.
The Commodores’ Jamal Fordham scored on runs of five and 12 yards.
Owen Searcy connected on six PATs.
Mapletown’s Austin Hennessey rushed for 36 yards on two carries. Ashton Walker led the visitors with seven tackles. Teammate Taylor Dusenberry added six.
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 42, GREENSBURG SALEM 7 — Teagen Crouse ran for three touchdowns and threw for two in the Raiders’ Class 3A Interstate Conference triumph at Offutt Field in Greensburg.
Crouse scored on runs of 40, 6 and 62 yards and connected with Jack Ricciuti for trips into the end zone from 2 and 11 yards. Ricciuti made six extra points.
Teammate Ky-mani Sumpter scored on a 38-yard run.
Crouse rushed for 133 yards on eight carries and was 7 of 16 for 99 yards. Sumpter topped the century mark with 107 yards on 10 rushes. He led Waynesburg (3-1, 6-1) in receiving with 63 yards on three receptions.
The Golden Lions’ Brandt Sandstrom pulled in a 22-yard touchdown
reception from Brady Chismar and Colton Miller kicked the PAT.
Chismar was 19 of 31 for 217 yards. His favorite target was Braydon Miller, who caught 11 passes for 133 yards.
CALIFORNIA 57, WEST GREENE 0 — The Trojans scored eight touchdowns four different ways to remain undefeated in Class 1A Tri-County South Conference play at California Stadium in Coal Center.
California (4-0, 5-2) had four runs, two interceptions, one punt return and one pass for a score.
Brandon Meier got the home team going on a six-yard run prior to Chase Shemansky’s two-point run.
Shemansky’s 42-yard punt return into the end zone and Meier’s two-point run extended the Trojans’ lead to 16-0.
Brayden Crockett returned an interception 48 yards for a score and California had a 22-0 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
Eli Carpenter caught a pass from Meier and took it nine yards into the end zone for a 30-0 lead after Alan Dennis ran in the two-point conversion.
Meier’s five-yard touchdown and two-point run pushed the Trojans’ advantage to 38-0 prior to Dennis’ one-yard plunge into the end zone. Jayce Morton kicked the extra point for a 45-0 halftime lead.
Dennis returned an interception 56 yards into the end zone and Barrett Daniels added a 40-yard run for a score in the third quarter.
Meier was 7 of 8 for 100 yards.
BELLE VERNON 49, MOUNT PLEASANT 0 — Jace Gedekoh and Chace Petrosky combined for five touchdowns in the Leopards’ Class 3A Interstate Conference game at James Weir Stadium in Rostraver Township.
Gedekoh scored on runs of 22, 1 and 5 yards, while Petrosky scored on a four-yard run and caught a 40-yard pass from Gedekoh for a touchdown, as Belle Vernon (3-0, 6-1) held a 35-0 lead at the half.
Cameren Jenko (2 yards) and Vander Raczkowski (11 yards) scored rushing touchdowns in the third quarter.
Gedekoh rushed for 98 yards on seven carries and was 8 of 10 for 131 yards. Petrosky gained 127 yards on 18 attempts.
Landon Bell was 7 for 7 on extra points.
AVELLA 30, JEFFERSON-MORGAN 21 — The Eagles rallied in the fourth quarter to down the Rockets in Class A Tri-County South Conference play at Parker Field in Jefferson.
Jefferson-Morgan (1-3, 1-6) had a 21-14 lead after the third period before Avella (3-1, 4-3) scored two touchdowns and two 2-point conversions in the final frame.
Chas Rush found the end zone on an 18-yard run and Caleb Amaismeier’s run for two provided the visiting team with a 22-21 edge. Gage Samol scored on a 28-yard run and added the two-point conversion for a nine-point advantage. Samol gained 115 yards on 11 carries.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the first quarter on Bo Allison’s fumble recovery in the end zone for a 6-0 lead.
The Rockets took a 7-6 advantage in the second period on Liam Rogers’ 41-yard run and Eli Pears’ extra point.
Gavin Gatewood’s nine-yard run and two-point conversion put Avella ahead, 14-7, at halftime.
Triton Farabee scored on a two-yard run and threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Justin Woodward.
Pears made both PATs in the third quarter for a seven-point lead.
GATEWAY 49, CONNELLSVILLE 10 — The Falcons had a three-point halftime lead over the Gators, but the home team rallied in the second half for a decisive victory in Class 5A Big East Conference play.
Connellsville (0-3, 3-4) had a 10-7 advantage at halftime following Linkon Keller’s 43-yard field goal and 29-yard touchdown reception from Jeffrey Nicholson.
Tucker Beaman made his lone extra-point attempt for the Falcons.
Keller gained 164 yards rushing on 36 carries. He caught two passes for 27 yards.
Gateway (2-1, 4-3) came alive in the third period, as it outscored Connellsville, 28-0, for a 35-10 lead.
Ned Reid IV scored on runs of 27 and 32 yards, and Kacey Carter caught touchdown passes of 16 and seven yards from Mayson Mitchell.
Jackson Mikulandrich made four of his seven PATs.
Mitchell threw a 76-yard touchdown pass to Daysaun Spencer in the fourth quarter for a 42-10 lead before Julian Dancear found the end zone on a four-yard run to cap the scoring.
Mitchell was 15 of 22 for 263 yards and Reid gained 118 yards on 12 carries.
HIGHLANDS 42, SOUTHMORELAND 20 — The Golden Rams built a 35-point lead en route to a non-section victory over the Scotties at Highlands Golden Rams Stadium in Natrona Heights.
Tevin Owen-Cratsenberg scored two touchdowns in the first quarter on runs of 16 and 21 yards, and Jackson Babinsack on two of his six extra points for a 14-0 advantage.
Logan Thies threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Christian Person and an eight-yard strike to Bryce Tavarez to extend the home team’s lead to 28-0 in the second period.
Owen-Cratsenberg’s one-yard run into the end zone and Babinsack’s kick pushed Highlands’ advantage to 35-0.
Dylan Brown scored on a 68-yard run to get Southmoreland (2-5) on the scoreboard in the second quarter.
Thies threw a five-yard touchdown pass to Tavarez in the third quarter for a 42-6 lead after Babinsack’s PAT.
The Scotties’ Justin Hribal returned a fumble 70 yards for a score and Brown reached the end zone from one-yard out.
The Golden Rams improved to 6-1.
SOUTH FAYETTE 63, ALBERT GALLATIN 6 — The Lions demonstrated why they are one of top teams in Class 4A in a strong performance in Big Six Conference action at Albert Gallatin Stadium in York Run.
South Fayette (2-0, 6-1) built up a 49-0 lead before the Colonials (1-1, 3-4) scored on Bronx Jamison’s five-yard run in the third quarter.
The Lions’ Aayden Wright rushed for 147 yards on eight carries and scored three touchdowns. Teammate Braden Cernicky returned a punt 27 yards into the end zone.
