Connellsville didn’t have to travel far in earning a 3-0 victory over Geibel Catholic on Monday in non-section girls volleyball action at Geibel Catholic Junior/Senior High School.

The Falcons won by set scores of 25-19, 25-15 and 26-24.

The Gators (5-5, 9-6) were led in digs and kills by Nolace Petrosky, who had 10 digs and nine kills. Teammate Neville Petrosky also had 10 digs.

GIRLS SOCCER

BROWNSVILLE 7, CHARTIERS-HOUSTON 0 — The Falcons were firing on all cylinders in a Section 2-1A victory over the Buccaneers at Redstone Field in Republic.

With the win, Brownsville (6-1-0, 14-1-0) can clinch at least a share of the section championship if it defeats Beth-Center (1-4-1, 3-9-2) in its final section match at Redstone Field. The title would be the first in program history.

The Falcons defeated the Bulldogs, 12-0, in their first contest on Sept. 23.

Brownsville split the season series with defending WPIAL Class A champion Bentworth (5-1-0, 12-2-0) in losing the first match, 2-1, on Sept. 16 prior to a 3-1 victory on Oct. 7.

The Bearcats have remaining section contests against California (1-6-1, 2-8-1) and Beth-Center.

In the Falcons’ match against Chartiers-Houston, sophomore Gloria Kovscek recorded a hat trick and added an assist. Teammate Ellie Haddad had a brace and two assists.

Avianna Hernandez and Riley Rohland had one goal apiece.

Brownsville’s Addy Brown assisted on two tallies.

The Falcons’ Ava Rohland stopped 10 shots on target for the clean sheet.

BELLE VERNON 3, ALBERT GALLATIN 0 — The Leopards blanked the Colonials in Section 3-3A play at James Weir Stadium in Rostraver Township.

Belle Vernon (6-1-2, 8-2-4) has already clinched a berth in the WPIAL playoffs, but can secure second place in the second with a win over Laurel Highlands (3-6-0, 4-10-0) in its final section match.

Albert Gallatin (3-6-0, 7-8-0) will be cheering for the Leopards in their match against the Mustangs because a win over Uniontown (0-9-0, 1-10-1) and a Laurel Highlands loss or draw will put the Colonials in the District 7 postseason for the first time in program history.

Deaulla Lightfoot scored for Belle Vernon in the first half. Raegan Sobczak added the assist for a 1-0 lead at the break.

Sobczak scored both goals in the second half. Lightfoot returned the favor and set up her teammate, and Rory Bastedo assisted on the other tally. Skylar Salay made four saves for the clean sheet.
