Jonathan Guth | Herald-Standard Albert Gallatin’s Caileigh Theodori is challenged by Abby DeLorenzo (11) and Gracie Cicci during a Section 3-3A match on Oct. 7 at Mustang Field on the campus of Laurel Highlands High School.

The fourth United States Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin had the school that bears his name create some history on Monday night in girls non-section soccer play at McKeesport.

The Colonials blanked the Tigers, 4-0, to clinch the first winning season in the program’s 28-year history.

Albert Gallatin finished the regular season at 9-8-0. The Colonials had another program first on Oct. 14 in their 9-1 victory over Uniontown, which clinched a spot in the WPIAL playoffs.

Albert Gallatin was 4-6-0 in Section 3-3A play this season. The Colonials’ first key win was a 3-2 triumph over Thomas Jefferson on Sept. 10 at Albert Gallatin Stadium in York Run. The Jaguars are also playoff bound after recording a 5-3-2 mark in section action to finish in third place.

Albert Gallatin defeated the Red Raiders twice and split the season series with Laurel Highlands, as each team earned 1-0 victories as the visitors.

The Colonials, who are coached by Justin Cerullo, took control of Monday’s contest against McKeesport (4-6-0) on a brace by Paige Kennedy, and goals by Olivia Eicher and Lacey Blair.

Blair’s tally came from 25 yards out, as she blasted a shot into the top corner of the goal. Caleigh Theodori had two assists and Blair added one.

Belle Vernon qualified for the WPIAL playoffs out of Section 3-3A with a record of 7-1-2 in league play and 10-2-4. The Leopards finished second in the section behind Elizabeth Forward (9-1-0, 11-4-0).

Brownsville (7-1-0, 15-1-0) earned its first section title in sharing the Section 2-1A crown with Bentworth (7-1-0, 14-2-0), as both clubs split the season series. The Bearcats, who are the defending WPIAL Class 1A champions, won the first match, 2-1, on Sept. 16. The Falcons earned a 3-1 triumph in the rematch on Oct. 7.

Beth-Center (1-6-1, 3-11-2) earned a playoff berth in Class 1A out of Section 2.

Mount Pleasant (9-2-1, 10-5-3) clinched as the second-place team in Section 4-2A and Southmoreland (5-6-0, 7-8-0) also reached the postseason after placing fourth in the section.

Waynesburg Central (5-3-4, 9-4-4) will represent Section 1-2A in the postseason as the third-place finisher.

On the boys side, Laurel Highlands (3-6-1, 6-8-1) and Uniontown (3-6-1, 6-7-1) tied for fourth in Section 2-3A, and both clubs will enter the WPIAL playoffs in Class 3A after the cross-town rivals split the season series, 1-1.

Mount Pleasant (10-1-0, 16-1-0) and Belle Vernon (10-1-1, 13-1-2) have qualified for the district postseason in Class 2A out of Section 5. The Vikings played Brownsville (1-10-0, 3-13-0) in the section finale on Tuesday. A win would clinch the section crown outright for Mount Pleasant, while a draw would create a share for the title. A victory by the Falcons would clinch the section outright for the Leopards.

The soccer steering committee will meet on Wednesday to establish the brackets for boys and girls in each classification.

The pairings show will be streamed on Trib HSSN at 1 p.m.
