Connellsville golfers top Gateway

Braydon Rockwell and Hunter Hughes each shot 41 in Connellsville’s 219-225 victory over Gateway in non-section boys golf play on Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Golf Club.

The Falcons’ CJ Forcina was the sixth starter for his team, but the sophomore came through in shooting a 43 on the front-nine, par-35 course.

Owen Shaw and Landon Garlick each carded 47s to help Connellsville improve to 3-5 this season.

JEFFERSON-MORGAN 218, BROWNSVILLE 240 — Urijah Teasdale fired a 41 to earn medalist honors in the Rockets’ triumph over the Falcons in Section 3-2A action at Nemacolin Country Club in Beallsville.

Dominic and Miles Sowden finished tied at 42 for Jefferson-Morgan.

The Rockets’ Brelynn Wood carded a 45, and teammate Trenton Sowden finished J-M’s scoring with a round of 48.

Brownsville was led by Ava Rohland’s 44. Adam Vojacek had a 45 and Dom Capan fired a round of 49. Cooper Cetera and Carson Varndell closed the Falcons’ scoring with each firing a 51.

CARMICHAELS 242, BETH-CENTER 244 — Connor Lapana carded a one-over-par 38 to help lead the Mikes to a Section 3-2A victory at Carmichaels Golf Club.

Teammate Eli Hastings finished his round on the front nine at 43. Anthony Post fired a 47 and Chase Ankrom finished his round with a 48. Joby Pratt closed Carmichaels’ round at 66.

The Mikes improved to 3-2 in section and overall play.

The Bulldogs’ Austin Kurowski carded his team’s low round at 41. Teammate Ryan Krocsko finished at 47 and Parker Amos had a round of 50.

Wes Beabout (51) and Hunter Bobbs (55) closed out the scoring for Beth-Center (2-5, 2-6).

UNIVERSITY, W.VA., 200, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 217 — The Mustangs dropped their first match of the season in a non-section setback at South Union Township Municipal Golf Course.

Andrew Gallick led Laurel Highlands (5-0, 5-1) in scoring with a round of 42 on the front nine of the par 36 course. Teammate Dan O’Neal carded a 43. The trio of Kayden Smith, Ryan Revak and Cole Dempsey each finished with 44s.

University’s Brayden Rickman shot even par. Teammate Will Biddington was 2 over and Wyatt Caplan fired a 39.

Max Palmer (43) and Jagger Barnes (44) closed the scoring for the visitors.

MOUNT PLEASANT 215, DERRY 238 — The Vikings’ Hunter Snyder shot a 38 for medalist honors in a Section 2-2A match at Latrobe Elks Golf Course.

Mount Pleasant’s Austyn Gross had a round of 42, and teammate Matthew Labuda came in at 43.

Trever Gonofsky (45) and Ezra Bowman (47) were the fourth and fifth scorers for Vikings (2-3, 2-3).

GIRLS GOLF

MOUNT PELASANT 202, SOUTHMORELAND 213 — The Scotties’ Kendall Campbell was the medalist, but the Vikings earned the team victory in section play.

Campbell finished her nine holes with a round of 43.

Mount Pleasant’s Morgan Miller led her squad with a round of 45. Teammates Victoria Tepper (47), Ally Christner (48) and Layla Gratzinger (62) closed out the scoring.

Southmoreland’s Riyah Younkin shot a round of 55. Paige Gunderson (56) and Kyleigh Fedor (59) finished the scoring for the Scotties (2-3, 2-3).

The Vikings improved to 3-3 in section play and 5-4 overall.
