CROSS COUNTRY

BOYS: CONNELLSVILLE 15, SOUTHMORELAND 50; GIRLS: CONNELLSVILLE 15, SOUTHMORELAND 45 — The Pritts brothers went 1-2-3 in helping the Falcons to a non-section victory over the Scotties at Southmoreland Area High School.

Sophomore Ellic Pritts, who was runner-up in the Fayette County Coaches Association (FCCA) championship last year, won the race in 18:44.80. Junior Jake Pritts came in at 19:52.20 and freshman Sawyer Pritts was third in his first official varsity race in 20:08.50.

The first runner not named “Pritts” still wore Connellsville blue, as Dane Pavlovich finished fourth in 21:06.30. Teammate William DeBolt was fifth in 21:27.50 and Nicolas Schultz was sixth in 22:19.70.

Southmoreland helped his team avoid cross country’s equivalent of a sweep (top seven finish in order from one team) when Dylan Bierhaus placed seventh in 22:30.80.

The Scotties had the next three come in to round out the top 10, as Aiden Redmond, Ross Street and Daniel Busato crossed the finish line in 23:23.10, 24:39.70 and 25:02.90.

In the girls race, the Lady Falcons’ Addison Lane crossed the finish line first in 23:10.50. Teammate Abigail Zavatchan was second in 24:08.60 and Jordyn Ranker was third in 27:50.90.

Connellsville’s Alexis Helms was fourth in 29:37.60 before the Lady Scotties’ Cassie Loop came in fifth at 30:47.40. Aurelia Riggs, who placed sixth overall, was the fifth finisher for the visitors in 33:03.40.

Southmoreland’s Laurel Cavalier (33:34.80), Maddie Watkins (34:31.40) and Abbie Ritenour (35:19.10) were the seventh, eighth and ninth finishers.

The Lady Falcons had won the meet prior to the race’s conclusion, as four Lady Scotties finished, which automatically eliminated them from winning the team competition, as national and state rules require five runners to complete the course for a team to score.
