Pritts finishes 25th in Red, White & Blue Classic
Connellsville’s Ellic Pritts had the best time in Class 3A on Saturday in the 24th Annual Red, White & Blue Classic at White Oak Park.
The sophomore crossed the finish line in a time of 16:37.90 to place 25th in the Class 3A race. The WPIAL Cross Country Championship races will be contested at White Oak Park, which is the reason many District 7 teams compete in the Red, White & Blue Classic. There are races in Classes A, 2A and 3A for boys and girls, which are the same divisions that are used to determine the WPIAL championships.
Belle Vernon senior Leonidas Soto was 28th in the Class 2A boys race with a time of 17:55.40.
Uniontown’s Ezra Botovsky came right behind Soto in a time of 18:05.20 to place 32nd in Class 2A.
Laurel Highlands’ Mason Mahoney was 38th in a time of 18:12.30.
West Greene’s Joel Grimes had the second-best time in the Herald-Standard coverage area in crossing the finish line in 17:04.80. Grimes, a sophomore, was ninth in the Class A race.
California’s Carter Kent placed in the top 25 with a time of 18:00.90 for 17th.
Grimes’ teammate, Kameron Hackney, was 20th in 18:23.40, which provided the Pioneers with a solid top two.
Laurel Highlands senior Taylor Schwertfeger was in the top 25 in the girls Class 2A race after placing 24th with a time of 21:29.20.
Belle Vernon was led by Lily Walsh, who was 39th in 22:13.00.
Sadie Hostetler paced Uniontown in a time of 23:46.60 for 70th place in Class 2A.
Connellsville sophomore Addison Lane had the top time among finishers in the girls races in the Herald-Standard coverage area in finishing her 5K in 21:20.30. Lane’s issue was competing against some of the largest schools in the WPIAL, as the Falcons were in the Class 3A race. Lane was 76th in the event.
West Greene’s Maggi Courtwright paced the local contingent in Class A with a time of 24:10.40. The ninth grader was in 31st place.
SOCCER
BETH-CENTER 3, CHARLEROI 0 — Kendall Welsh’s brace was more than enough offense for the Bulldogs in a non-section victory in girls soccer play on Saturday at Beth-Center Stadium.
Teammate Isabella Fischer had the third goal for Beth-Center (0-1-0, 2-4-1).
Keira Lamp made six saves for her first clean sheet this season.
In boys soccer action on Saturday, Uniontown dropped a 2-0 non-section match to Class 4A Baldwin. The Red Raiders (1-0-0, 3-1-0) return to Section 2-3A play on Tuesday when it hosts Laurel Highlands (0-1-0, 0-3-0) at 7:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the girls teams in the cross-town rivalry.
