Bulldogs blank West Greene, remain unbeaten
Enzo Brown had 16 carries for 232 yards and three touchdowns at Beth-Center remained the only undefeated local football team by blanking host West Greene, 35-0, in a Class A Tri-County South Conference clash at Kennedy Field on Friday night.
Coach Tim Trump’s Bulldogs improved to 2-0 in the conference and 5-0 overall. Coach Beau Jackson’s Pioneers fell to 1-1 and 2-3.
West Greene did its best to hang in the game against one of the highest scoring teams in the WPIAL but B-C gradually pulled away.
Brown opened the scoring with a 71-yard touchdown run and Hunter Bobbs added the first of his five extra-point kicks to make it 7-0 in the first quarter.
Brown found the end zone again in the second quarter on a 40-yard run and Homer Headlee, who wound up with 104 rushing yards, scored on a 17-yard jaunt before halftime to put the Bulldogs up 21-0.
Beth-Center capped the scoring with Brown’s 53-yard touchdown in the third quarter and Cyler Myers’ 6-yard TD run in the fourth.
B-C quarterback Chase Bebout completed 7 of 9 passes for 87 yards, including three to Bobbs for 62 yards.
Joel Rizor led West Greene with 59 yards rushing. Gavin Roberts caught two passes for 31 yards.
JEFFERSON-MORGAN 27, MAPLETOWN 12 — Liam Rogers had over 100 yards rushing and receiving and scored three touchdowns to lead the Rockets (1-1, 1-4) past the visiting Maples in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game at Parker Field.
Rogers rambled for 159 yards on the ground, including TD runs of 98 and 24 yards, and added seven receptions for 101 yards and a 65-yard score from quarterback Triton Farabee.
Tyler Dusenberry had 13 carries for 83 yards and a 6-yard touchdown for Mapletown (0-2, 0-5).
Carson Vanata scored the Maples other TD on a 2-yard run.
INDIANA 25, ALBERT GALLATIN 14 — Jace Brocious scored three touchdowns, including a clinching 18-yard catch from quarterback Jason Strack in the fourth quarter, to help the Indians fend off the visiting Colonials in a non-conference game.
Brocious pulled in a 30-yard TD pass in the first quarter to give Indiana (2-3) a 6-0 lead but Albert Gallatin (2-3) countered with Bentley Swaney’s 32-yard scoring run and Eli Fisher’s extra point later in the quarter to go up 7-6.
The Indians went ahead to stay with touchdown runs of 21 yards by Brocious and 14 yards by Strack in the second quarter for an 18-7 halftime advantage.
Swaney scored again on a 76-yard run early in the third quarter to pull AG within 18-14 before Brocious tallied his third TD to cap the scoring.
Swaney had eight carries for 133 yards and Roman Smith contributed 14 carries for 72 yards for the Colonials.
WEST MIFFLIN 39, LAUREL HIGHLANDS 0 — Armand Hill scored on touchdown runs of 1, 5 and 16 yards as the host Titans (3-2) shut down the Mustangs in a non-conference game.
Zawaun Glover had TD runs of 23 and 73 for West Mifflin which also got a 6-yard scoring run from Jarelle Mason.
Nick Crouch had four receptions for 13 yards for Laurel Highlands (0-5) and Lane Miskanin chipped in with four carries for 12 yards.
PENN-TRAFFORD 64, CONNELLSVILLE 0 — The unbeaten Warriors rolled to a 38-0 halftime lead on the way to shutting out the host Falcons in a Class 5A Big East Conference game.
Nick Ponko opened the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown pass from Ben Grabowski in the first quarter and added a 57-yard punt return for a score in the second quarter.
Jordan Earhart threw a touchdown pass and also ran for a score for the Warriors (2-0, 5-0).
Jeremy Jenkins intercepted a pass for Connellsville (0-1, 3-2).
ELIZABETH FORWARD 41, SOUTHMORELAND 0 — Kaden Allen ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns and also threw for 110 yards and a score as the Warriors stayed perfect with a Class 3A Interstate Conference victory over the host Scotties and Russ Grimm Field.
Elizabeth Forward (2-0, 5-0) scored 14 points in both the first and second quarters for a 28-0 halftime lead and tacked on 13 points in the third to cap the scoring.
Southmoreland fell to 1-1 in the conference and 2-3 overall.
BELLE VERNON 49, GREENSBURG SALEM 14 — Chace Petrosky rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns and Vander Raczkowski added 76 yards and one TD in the Leopards’ Class 3A Interstate Conference win over the visiting Lions.
Petrosky scored on runs of 11 and 6 yards and also had a 39-yard touchdown reception from Jace Gedekoh.
David Bergstedt had TD runs of 4 and 29 yards for Belle Vernon (1-0, 4-1) which built a commanding 49-0 halftime advantage.
Gedekoh completed 6 of 9 passes for 110 yards.
Greensburg Salem fell to 0-2 in the conference and 0-5 overall.
AVELLA 34, CARMICHAELS 14 — Chas Rush rambled for 161 yards, including touchdown runs of 15, 50 and 29 yards, as the host Eagles soared past the Mikes in a Class A Tri-County South Conference game.
Rush also threw a 16-yard TD pass to Bo Allison as Avella improved to 1-1 in the conference and 2-3 overall.
Gage Samol accounted for the Eagles’ other touchdown with a 56-yard run.
Carmichaels’ Job Smith scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and Ryder Krieg’s extra point tied the score at 7-7.
Avella would score the next three touchdowns to take control.
KC Shook’s 30-yard TD run in the third quarter got the Mikes (0-2, 1-4) within two scores but they would get no closer.
SOUTH ALLEGHENY 52, BROWNSVILLE 12 — The Falcons’ Silas Patterson scored twice and rushed for 161 yards, but the Gladiators were too much in the Class 2A Allegheny Conference opener for both teams.
South Allegheny (1-0, 3-2) opened the scoring when Max Jeffcoat pulled in a 29-yard touchdown reception from Malakai Myers and Marcel Boxley ran in the two-point conversion, but Brownsville (0-1, 0-5) cut the deficit to 8-6 on Patterson’s 67-yard run.
Boxley dashed 19 yards into the end zone and Myers ran in the two-point conversion for a 16-6 advantage.
Abel Cook caught a 33-yard touchdown pass from Myers prior to Jahmal Glenn scoring on runs of 15 and 50 yards. Myers and Glenn ran in two-point conversions on Glenn’s two touchdowns for a 38-6 lead.
Glenn added two more touchdown runs on 32 and five yards and pulled in a pass from Myers for a two-point conversion.
Patterson raced into the end zone from 60 yards for the Falcons’ final score.
The Gladiators’ Nasir Roccman had a game-high 214 yards on 15 carries.
