Doman records hat trick in Laurel Highlands victory
Ella Doman’s hat trick and Lola Mitchell’s brace was more than enough scoring for Laurel Highlands in a 5-1 victory over Charleroi on Monday in non-section girls soccer play at Mustang Field on the campus of Laurel Highlands High School.
Gracie Cicci, Camilla Frantz, Camryn McClean and Ava Ruvalcaba had one assist apiece for Mustangs (2-3-0, 3-6-0).
Laurel Highlands had a significant advantage in possession, as the Cougars registered four shots on target.
Addison Stroko made two saves and Brooke Smith had one for the home club.
The Mustangs return to the pitch this evening at Elizabeth Forward (4-1-0, 5-4-0) in Section 3-3A action. The kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
ALBERT GALLATIN 6, BETH-CENTER 0 — The Colonials had six different goal scorers in a non-section victory over the Bulldogs on Senior Night at Albert Gallatin Stadium in York Run.
Izzy DeHaven, Olivia Eicher, Laney Gibson, Bailey Guty, Bella McClelland and JL Plum found the back of the net. Eicher added an assist.
Lacey Blair led Albert Gallatin (1-3-0, 4-4-1) with three assists. Teammate Caleigh Theodori had two.
The Colonials return to Section 3-3A play on Thursday at Uniontown (0-4-0, 1-5-1). The match is scheduled to kickoff at 5:30 p.m. as part of a girls-boy soccer doubleheader at Bill Power Stadium between the two schools.
BROWNSVILLE 10, SERRA CATHOLIC 1 — Ellie Haddad recorded a hat trick and the Falcons had three players with a brace in a non-section victory over the Eagles at Serra Catholic in McKeesport.
Gloria Kovscek had two goals and three assists. Ari Johnson had two tallies and two helpers. Riley Rohland had two goals and an assist.
Addy Brown also scored for Brownsville (3-1-0, 10-1-0).
Maria Duda and Arabella Keefer had one assist apiece.
Ava Rohland stopped two shots in the first half before Addison Burnsworth turned away eight shots on target in the second.
Serra Catholic (0-3-0, 3-6-0) scored its lone goal on a penalty kick in the second half.
WAYNESBURG CENTRAL 1, KEYSTONE OAKS 1 — Kolbi Rastoka scored the Raiders’ lone goal in a Section 1-2A match against the Golden Eagles.
Waynesburg is third in the section at 3-2-2 and 11 points.
BOYS SOCCER
BELLE VERNON 9, DERRY 0 — The Leopards blanked the Trojans to finish the first half of Section 5-2A play undefeated at Derry Area High School.
Jordan Jerome recorded a hat trick, and Chris Showman and Gavin Metzger scored two goals apiece, as Belle Vernon improved to 6-0-0 in section play and 8-0-1 overall.
Metzger and Showman also had an assist.
Anthony Sawa scored a goal and added an assist, and Landon Bell and Carter Schultz each contributed to a goal.
Ethan Hunt scored his first varsity goal on a shot from outside the 18-yard box.
Morgan Bunch (2 saves) and Jaxson Hurst (5 saves) combined for the clean sheet.
ELIZABETH FORWARD 9, CONNELLSVILLE 1 — Tyler Burkas scored for the Falcons, but the Warriors earned a non-section victory.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
BROWNSVILLE 3, WASHINGTON 2 — The Falcons downed the Prexies in a five-set thriller in non-section action at Brownsville Area High School.
Washington won the first set, 25-12, before Brownsville earned victories in the next two by scores of 25-16 and 25-14. The Prexies sent the match to the fifth set with a 25-17 victory in the fourth.
The Falcons earned a tiebreaking 17-15 triumph in the fifth set to improve to 6-2 overall. Brownsville is 4-2 in Section 4-3A.
Nataya Williams led the Falcons in service points with 11 and assists with 34. Teammate Aijanae Foster had a match-high 16 kills.
Brownsville’s Lena Rechichar added seven kills.
Ashley Evanchak led the Falcons in digs with 21.
GEIBEL CATHOLIC 3, WEST GREENE 1 — The Gators swept the Pioneers in non-section play at West Greene.
Geibel Catholic won by set scores of 25-18, 25-17 and 25-19.
Annabelle Kelly led the Gators in assists with 26. Teammate Neville Petrosky had 11 kills and 20 digs. Nolace Petrosky chipped in with nine kills and three aces.
CARMICHAELS 3, BENTWORTH 0 — The Mikes swept the Bearcats in non-section action at Carmichaels Area High School.
Carmichaels won by set scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-11.
Vanessa Kinskey led Bentworth in digs with 20.
The Bearcats are 4-2 in the section and 6-6 overall.
GIRLS TENNIS
MOUNT PLEASANT 5, VALLEY 0 — The Vikings earned a Section 1-2A victory over the Vikings at Mount Pleasant Area High School’s tennis courts.
Ryleigh Drzal, Autumn Jurkovic-Kuzma and Megan Bullock all won their singles matches.
Danica Trainer and Claire Reese teamed up for a victory at No. 1 doubles, and the duo of Hannah Shawley and Chloe Zelmore completed the sweep in the second doubles match.
