H.I.T.S. 10-9-11

Yet again, there’s big news in the cell phone world. Apple announced last Tuesday that they have yet another model of the iPhone coming out on October 14th. It was plastered all over Apple.com and it was also revealed that you can now get the iPhone on Sprint as well! Long-term, that will probably kill Sprint’s unlimited data and calling plan for eighty bucks a month.

By the way, the new one is dubbed “iPhone 4S” and an article that I read on my humble Android phone said that Sprint has committed to buy more than thirty million iPhones over the next four years! Maybe this will spur Verizon to offer some unlimited deals again, but don’t hold your breath on that one.

I looked at the new phone on Apple’s website and it seems to me that, more and more, these smart phones are getting like mini super-fast computers. Apple boasts about a dual core A5 chip, an eight mega pixel camera and iCloud. Basically, iCloud is an online service to let you store pics and other data.

The other thing they mention called SIRI just seems to be voice-controlled things like dialing and texting. Of course, as is usual in big business like this, they claim that it’s the most amazing iPhone yet!

Mrs. Schulze remarked about how smart Apple is for finally selling their phones to three carriers. What about T-Mobile, though? I think that I remember seeing that the T-Mobile network is not completely technically compatible with the iPhone.

I’ve heard a few accounts from people who own the iPhone 4 who said that the phones just stopping working. With the amount of the phones sold on Verizon alone, I guess you’re going to get a few bad ones sooner or later. It’s seemed like every other student who came for guitar lessons this year has sported an iPhone.

In other news, I owe another round of thanks to everyone who showed up to support the Rock the Cause benefit on the 29th. We had great weather and an amazing night of music with the Rozzers, More Bad News and Lovebettie who provided an incredible PA setup that all the musicians were ogling, including me. Thanks again to Matt Lancaster for organizing this year’s event and to anyone who was involved in any other way!

While watching the bands, I even took some pics with my phone and uploaded them to Facebook from Storey Square. I’m still amazed at how you can take pics locally and then upload them to Facebook, which can be seen by people all over the world. If only that technology had been available when I saw the Beatles or the Who or any of the other bands I saw while growing up and now only have distant memories of.

Can you believe that we’re approaching Christmas at breakneck speed? With it will come a whole new bunch of hot items that people will want as presents- everything from iPads and their counterparts to iPhones and iPods of various shapes, sizes and colors. One boy told me that he wanted an X Box for Christmas and then rolled his eyes when I said Santa might not be able to get down the chimney with an X Box.

I also hope that by the time you read this, the weather forecast that was on my phone has proven to be correct. We’re basking in glorious seventy-degree weather before we finally go into winter and all that’s involved with it.

I still find it interesting to go online and look at webcams from all over the world and see what its like in another place thousands of miles away from us. The internet has certainly made the world a smaller place. Now, even while traveling, you can log into sites like Facebook or Twitter and communicate with friends and loved ones. No doubt many people will be doing just that in the upcoming holiday season, all thanks to wonderful technology.

With that thought, I’ll take my leave. Until next time, have a great week!
