The Student Activities Board hosted the last Game Night of the spring in the Bee Hive on  Friday, March 31.  Some game options for the students were Uno, Cranium, Dominos and several others. There were even classic games like Settlers of Catan.

Resident Director of Willison Russ Schneider chaperoned the event.

“We love games,” said Schneider. “We each own over 100 board games. It has always been something that I did in college with my friends, and students now.  It is a really good way to get to know someone, how they behave, and how they think just from playing a board game.”

There were also Doritos, potato chips, pretzels and other refreshments available.  Students got to relax, socialize, laugh and eat together.

“It is something that can bring a lot of different people together. I have game nights in my apartment every Thursday night,” said Schneider.  “Games in general bring all sorts of people together.  Even games that are strategic and more daunting can still bring people together to have fun… Lately I have been into the more party type games for 6 plus people.”

Schneider and his friends played a game called Ghost Stories.

“In Ghost Stories, we are all working together to defeat ghosts and the big bad boss ghost before the time runs out, or we all lose our lives or before the village gets overrun by ghosts,” said Schneider.  “It is a cooperative game, so you can still be competitive, but competitive with each other.”

Another group of students played Cranium and then Uno.

“I had nothing else really going on and it is a really good study break,” said freshman Harrison Scott.  “I liked it. It stretched my mind and gave us some good laughter as well. I am big fan of board games. They are more social than video games and it is always nice. Especially if it is a game that you can just sit down and have a conversation while playing the game, it is really enjoyable.”

Scott said there are plenty of games he likes, but there is one that he likes the most and more than others.

“Probably Dutch Blitz,” he said. “You have four different colored cards, and the cards go from 1 to 10. Everybody has a blitz pile and 3 cards up. You are trying to get rid of the blitz pile.  If you play a card from one of your three, you can take one from your blitz pile.  It is a very fast paced game.”
