A 75-year-old Redstone Township man is in Fayette County Prison after fatally shooting a friend inside his home Friday morning.

Edmund Parson, of 2011 Second St. in Cardale, allegedly shot and killed James Tucker after reaching into a lockbox, pulling out a gun and shooting Tucker twice. Tucker was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., where he was pronounced dead.

Another visitor to Parson’s home wrestled the gun away from Parson, and the visitor sustained minor injuries. Pennsylvania State Police were called to the scene about 11 a.m.

The exact age of Tucker and his address were not available, but he was also in his 70s. According to Mike Aubele, the Fayette County District Attorney, Tucker and the other man were Parson’s friends, and there was no apparent dispute that unfolded before the shooting.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Parson just snapped,” Aubele said. “It was very odd, very unusual. Based on witness statements, he was acting erratically that morning.”

Parson is being held without bond.
