Uniontown Hospital offers walk-in screening mammograms
WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital is making it easier for women to prioritize their breast health this October with Take Care Tuesdays, offering walk-in screening mammograms every Tuesday throughout Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
Screening mammograms will be available from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Tuesday in October at the Hospital’s Outpatient Diagnostic Center, located at 150 Wayland Smith Drive. No appointment is necessary.
“Early detection remains one of our most important tools in the fight against breast cancer,” Joseph DiPietro, M.D., diagnostic radiologist, said. “Take Care Tuesdays removes one of the barriers that can cause women to put off their screening. If you are due for your mammogram, we want to make it as convenient as possible to take care of your health.”
Take Care Tuesdays are for routine screening mammograms. Participants should ensure it has been more than one year since their last mammogram and should bring their physician’s order with them.
The initiative is part of Uniontown Hospital’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month efforts focused on education, early detection, treatment, and support for individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
“Women are often taking care of everyone around them, and sometimes their own healthcare falls to the bottom of the list,” Allison Pekar, director of imaging services, said. “We hope Take Care Tuesdays provides a reminder to make yourself and your health a priority. A screening mammogram takes a relatively small amount of time, but it can provide incredibly important information.”
