Residents will have a chance next week to talk with representatives from the company looking to operate a $13 billion power plant project being discussed in Fayette County. NextEra Energy Resources is developing the proposed 3.75-gigawatt plant, which would be located in Luzerne Township along a former mining site on the Monongahela River. NextEra was selected for the development in March as part of a larger trade agreement between the U.S. and Japan for energy infrastructure development across the country. Waynesburg woman charged with assaulting 18-month-old stepson

A Waynesburg woman is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing next week after being accused of severely assaulting her 18-month-old stepson while the child was visiting in May and failing to seek medical attention. Delaney Girvin, 24, is charged with aggravated assault, endangering welfare of children, recklessly endangering another person and harassment. The child’s grandmother noticed a contusion on his head and a limp when Girvin dropped him off after a four-hour visit on May 19, according to her criminal complaint. Brownsville man accused of molesting young girls in Charleroi

A Brownsville man is accused of molesting two pre-teen girls on multiple occasions dating back more than eight years ago. George Michael Lacotta, 43, of Brownsville, was charged with multiple felony child sex crimes in connection with the alleged sex assaults and fondling of the girls at two Charleroi residences and a Washington home over several years. Charleroi Regional police said the mother of the two accusers contacted investigators this June and told them of the assaults, prompting the police to interview the two girls, who are now teenagers. Water shutoff announced

Southwestern Pennsylvania Water Authority in Jefferson will have the water shut off Wednesday, Sept. 9, between 3:30 and 7 p.m. on Morey Road from the intersection of Wickerham Road to Leonard Road, to include all of Hastings Road, Huffman Road, Crawford Road and Mowery Lane. House numbers 357 to 499 on Buckingham will be affected as well as Wickerham Road to house 51 on Hill Road. Customers may experience low pressure or no water.
