Pittsburgh, Greensburg bishops offer Sunday Mass dispensation

Catholics in the Pittsburgh or Greensburg dioceses who cannot attend Mass on Sunday will be granted dispensation. Local meteorologists are warning that the region could have one of the most significant snow events in years, with hazardous roads and bitter cold expected through Monday. Each diocese is urging parishioners to place safety first when considering traveling this weekend. There will be Saturday Masses offered in each diocese, though parishioners are urged to check social media pages with individual churches to ensure there have been no last-minute cancellations.

White Oak man charged in Star Lake stabbing

Hanover Township police charged a man this week for allegedly stabbing two people following a concert at The Pavilion at Star Lake. Frank Bonacci, 43, of White Oak, faces felony charges of aggravated assault, and misdemeanors of reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and tampering with evidence. According to the criminal complaint, the stabbing occurred at about 12:45 a.m. Aug. 3 in the Star Lake parking lot. Luke Bryan had performed for a sold out crowd that night. Charging documents state that Steven Palermo and Daniel Myers had offered to help Bonacci look for his girlfriend's lost cellphone, but that a fight broke out. Monessen man indicted on drug, weapons charges

A Monessen man was indicted by a federal grand jury Wednesday on drug and firearm charges. Anthony Crews, 52, faces three charges of possession with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possession of a firearm and ammunition after being convicted of prior felonies. According to the Department of Justice, on June 25 Crews was found to be in possession of crack cocaine and firearms. Crews faces 10 years to life in prison, and a fine of up to $5.5 million.

Greene County Farmland Preservation Board accepting applications

The Greene County Farmland Preservation Board is accepting applications from qualifying landowners for participation in the Agricultural Conservation Easement Program. Applications will be accepted through the end of this year. The program is designed to help farmers protect their land for future generations by permanently preserving farmland from non-agricultural development. Landowners may sell or donate a conservation easement while retaining ownership of their property and continuing agricultural production.
