The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved applying for more than $1.8 million in grant funding Thursday to fix aging infrastructure in the Nemacolin sewer system and treatment plant. The board submitted the request for 2025 Community Development Block Grant funding on behalf of Cumberland Township. At a meeting last year on the grant request, township and sewer system officials said the century-old terracotta lines are showing signs of wear and tear, and are being invaded by root systems. Operations have been suspended for the rest of the week for District Judge Eric G. Porter after his Charleroi office was condemned Wednesday. A water line break collapsed ceilings and flooded the building at 416 Fallowfield Ave., rendering the structure uninhabitable. A search is underway for a new location for Porter to conduct business.
