The Carmichaels Women's Civic Club is offering a $1,000 scholarship to members of the 2026 senior class at Carmichaels Area High School. Applicants must have maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 and been accepted to a college or technical school. Students must write an essay, furnish a list of school and community activities, and provide a list of honors and awards. Applications are available in the high school guidance counselor's office. Completed applications must be returned to the office by 3 p.m. April 24.
The state Department of Transportation has asked for public input about the agency's response to winter weather. The 17-question online survey also asks respondents about their timeline expectations for safe and passable roadways, and how they rank snow-removal priorities. A Fayette County man is accused of breaking into a home in Brownsville and assaulting a resident who shot him several times when he refused to leave. Ronald Rosiek, 69, was transported by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital for emergency surgery after he was found by police. His condition was unknown Wednesday. The complaint indicated the alleged victim, a woman who was not identified, was able to identify Rosiek as the person who was in her home, but did not explain how she knew him.
