Award-winning author and historian Brady Crytzer will unveil his newest book, “The National Road, George Washington and America’s First Highway West,” during a May 16 event hosted by The Great Crossings Chapter, NSDAR, and the Old Petersburg-Addison Historical Society

The book depicts the road’s political debates, personal rivalries, and engineering marvels to bring settlers and commerce into America’s interior.

The event will be at 6:30 p.m., at the Addison United Methodist Church, 669 Main Street, Addison.

Prior to the event, the 192-year-old Petersburg Tollhouse, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, will be open for tours between the hours of 4:30-6 p.m.

The Frederick Augustine History House/Museum will also be open to visitors. The museum contains displays on local history, military history, vintage technology, antique musical instruments, and toys. Visitors can view the recreated clerk’s office, a diorama of the Addison State Bank, a farming display, quilts, and an exhibit on the life of the 19th century, rural homemaker.

This is no fee to attend, but guests should RSVP by texting or calling Susan Moon at 814-233-5238.
