Seeing that Halloween is a few weeks away and not only did I stock up on candy and boiling tar for trick-or-treaters, I also stocked up on three Halloween-inspired columns to get everyone in the spirit of the season. MONESSEN – Officials from the Monessen and Belle Vernon Area school districts met to discuss ways to work together, said Monessen School Board President Roberta Bergstedt. But while Monessen City School District does not currently have plans to merge with BVA or any other school district, it is open to sharing resources or exploring a barter system.

Laurel Business Institute announced Taylor Grimm of Normalville received the 2019 Leah Fields Memorial Scholarship. Officials said, “This scholarship was created in memory of Leah Ray Fields, who was a respiratory therapy student at LBI who died tragically during her third semester of study. Laurel Highlands Class of 1969 held its 50th reunion at the Hilton Garden Inn in Uniontown. Brenda Pollak led singing of the alma mater. Guest teachers included Jack Schuessler, Bill Simpson and Jim Tobal. DJ Ron Allen provided music. An informal gathering took place the day before at Gus’s Pub. Students from Chestnut Ridge Christian Academy in Uniontown visited the state Capitol in Harrisburg as part of the statewide Tobacco Resistance Unit. They attended Day at the Capitol to lobby for changing the age to buy tobacco from 18 to 21.
