WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital neurosurgeon named Patient Choice Award Winner
WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital and WVU Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute neurosurgeon Dr. Pedro Aguilar was selected as the hospital’s Patient Choice Award Winner for the first quarter of 2026.
Aguilar was honored by the recognition, which he said “reflects the dedication of our entire team.” He serves patients in Uniontown and Monongahela at the WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital Spine Center.
Aguilar was recognized for his significant clinical experience in spine surgery, as well as exceptional outcomes and patient satisfaction scores. The scores reflect data available from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Press Ganey patient satisfaction surveys.
Patients responding to Press Ganey surveys highlight Aguilar’s kindness and empathy, coupled with his talents as a “gifted surgeon.” Press Ganey is a health care performance improvement company that measures and analyzes patient experience to help health systems improve.
According to Press Ganey survey results, 95% of patients said they would recommend Aguilar to others, indicating very high patient satisfaction and trust.
Additionally, CMS data indicates that Aguilar performs a high volume of complex spine procedures, including spinal fusions and laminectomies, a procedure to remove the back part of the vertebra to relieve spinal cord or nerve pressure. High procedural volume is frequently associated with greater technical experience and familiarity with a wide range of spinal conditions.
“This data underscores Dr. Aguilar’s strong foundation of expertise in delivering surgical care, coupled with his patient-centered approach,” Karyn Wallace, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital, said. “Dr. Aguilar’s work reflects our organization’s commitment to compassion, excellence, and community connection, and his Patient Choice Award is well-deserved.”
In addition to his current Patient Choice Award honor, Aguilar was included in Pittsburgh Magazine’s list of “Top Doctors” in spring 2025. This month, he was recognized by Castle Connolly as a Top Doctor, in the top 7% of physicians nationwide.
