Community kitchen

The Masontown community kitchen will be open on Tuesday, June 30, between 4 and 5:30 p.m. In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary and the week of Independence Day, the kitchen will be serving a Fourth of July-style picnic meal. The menu will be sloppy joe or kielbasa sandwiches, potato or macaroni salad, baked beans, homemade desserts, fruit salad and Panera breads. Located in The First Presbyterian Church, 102 W. Church Ave., Masontown, meals are provided without charge. Donations are accepted and provide for future meals. For questions or to volunteer, call Deb at 724-208-4343 or Frank, 724 366-4721.

Food collection

The Brownsville Area Ministerial Association’s “Food For Falcons” food program is collecting applesauce cups or fruit cups during the months of July and August. There will be a donation area in each participating BAMA church and at the end of the collection period the items will be gathered and taken to the Brownsville First Christian Church to be packed and sent home with selected elementary students.

Clothing sale

On July 1, from 10 a.m. to noon, the 4C Ministry of the Republic Christian Church (Route 166, Republic) will be open for the public to purchase new and gently used clothing and household supplies. This ministry is located at the garage behind the church.

Food giveaway

Fresh Fire Church will be sponsoring a food give-away July 9 at the old Sears store at the Uniontown Mall. Distribution begins at 10 and runs until noon. Participants are not permitted to line up prior to 9. You cannot line up before 9:00 a.m.

VBS offered

Allison Christian Church (East Avenue, Allison 2) is holding a Vacation Bible School on Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for children ages 5 to 15. Call 724-785-8810 for more information or to register. Last date to preregister is July 8, though it is not required. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Each child is asked to bring a plain T-shirt; it will be painted for the craft. Participants are asked to bring a swimsuit and towel for the slip and slide. You do not have to be a member to attend.

Food bank

The St. Vincent de Paul-sponsored food bank will be held July 15 at the parking lot of the St. Mary’s Social Hall (118 Church St., Brownsville) from 11 a.m. through noon. The food will be loaded directly into your car by volunteers, and participants are asked to remain in their vehicles. Families must be registered with Fayette County Community Action Agency to receive food. Anyone who is not registered and lives in the Brownsville Area must complete the required paperwork before receiving food, and those who register on the day of the food bank are not guaranteed a box of food at the site. Families wishing to sign up on the distribution day must bring photo identification, date of birth of each person in the household, and verification of address.

Ostomy support

Penn Highlands Mon Valley offers an Ostomy Support Group the third Thursday of every month. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, July 16. The group meets from 2 to 3 p.m. in the Anthony M. Lombardi Education Conference Center, 1163 Country Club Road, Monongahela. There is no cost to participate. For more information, call 724-258-1912.

Food distribution

A food bank distribution will be held at Pleasant View Presbyterian Church (533 Royal Road, Smock) at 10 a.m. July 18.

Blood drive

A blood drive will be held at the First Christian Church of Brownsville (512 Second St.) on July 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Schedule your appointment at www.redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-733-2767.

Volunteers needed

Help is needed with unloading the food bank truck at the First Christian Church (512 Second St., Brownsville) on July 24 at 9 a.m. The food will be distributed July 25 from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m.

VBS planned

A Vacation Bible School sponsored by the St. Peter & St. Cecilia Parishes will be held July 28 to 31. Children in grades K-5 are welcome. You do not have to be a member of the parish to attend. The event will be held at St. Mary’s Social Hall (118 Church St., Brownsville). For more information, call 724-785-7781.

‘Loads of Love’

Pleasant View Presbyterian Church (533 Royal Road, Smock) is sponsoring “Loads of Love” at the Mod Laundromat (503 Union St., Brownsville, across from the Dairy Queen) on July 26 from 1 to 4 p.m. Those who need help paying for laundry costs are invited to do their laundry at this time.

Ducky race

Brownsville Area Revitalization Corporation (BARC) is holding its annual Ducky Race during Riverfest on Saturday, July 11, in Brownsville. The duckies will be dropped at 4:30 p.m. Ducks can be adopted by purchasing a ticket at the Flatiron Building or from any board member. Tickets will also be available on the day of the event.

Music camp

Mon Valley Academy for the Arts will hold a free “Listen Up” Summer Music Camp July 20-23 at the Peter J. Daley Cultural Center, 119 Brownsville Ave., Brownsville. Session times are 10 to 11:15 a.m. for ages 4 to 8 and 1 to 2:15 p.m. for ages 9 to 14. Parents and guardians are invited and encouraged to attend alongside their children. Individuals and businesses interested in helping sponsor music education opportunities for local youth are encouraged to contact Carla Anderton, CFRE, Vice President of Mon Valley Academy for the Arts, at 724-970-5841.

Arts program

Mon Valley Academy for the Arts (MVAA) invites teens to participate in its ongoing Crafty Conversations program, held on the second Wednesday of each month from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Peter J. Daley Cultural Center, 119 Brownsville Ave., Brownsville. The free sessions offer teens a chance to express themselves artistically. Radio club

The Uniontown Amateur Radio Club holds its meetings on the first and third Wednesdays of every month at 7 p.m. at the club building, 433 Old Pittsburgh Road, Uniontown. Visitors interested in learning more about modern ham radio are always welcome. More information on amateur radio and the club is available at www.w3pie.org.

Women’s meeting

Malden Christian Fellowship, 343 Old National Pike, Brownsville is holding a weekly meeting for women and teenage girls to discuss issues like depression, grief and eating disorders. Meetings are on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Addiction recovery

On Mondays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., the addiction recovery ministry There is Hope will be held at Malden Christian Fellowship, 343 Old National Pike, Brownsville. It is open to those in recovery, those struggling with addiction and their family members or loved ones. For more information or to access the meeting on Zoom call 724-434-4597 or 724-785-3042.

Prayer group

Fort Burd United Presbyterian Church, 200 Thornton Road, Brownsville, is holding a weekly prayer group on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. The public is invited.
