WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital will host a full day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities on Thursday, Oct. 22.

WVU Medicine Uniontown Hospital will bring physicians, community resources, and health and wellness organizations together for Pink Out on Thursday, Oct. 22, for a full day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities focused on education, early detection, advances in treatment, and support.

The day begins with a Lunch and Learn from noon to 1 p.m. in the Hospital’s Community Room.

Andrew Licata, M.D., surgeon, Nadia Baka, M.D., oncologist, Joseph DiPietro, M.D., diagnostic radiologist, and Amy Matias, B.S.N., R.N., O.C.N., nurse manager, will discuss advancements in breast cancer detection and treatment and help participants better understand the options available to patients today.

“Breast cancer care continues to evolve, and patients have more information and treatment options available to them than ever before,” Licata said. “Education helps patients better understand those options and have informed conversations with their healthcare team. We want people to leave feeling more knowledgeable about breast health and the resources available to them.”

From 1 to 6 p.m., the Hospital will host its Pink Out, featuring vendors, raffles, and opportunities for visitors to shop, learn, and connect with local health and wellness resources. Information about the Uniontown Hospital Cancer Support Group and other resources available to patients and families will also be provided.

The day’s activities conclude with an Evening with the Experts at 6 p.m. in the Community Room. Dinner will be provided as Jennifer Rittenhouse-Puhak, M.D., DiPietro and Matias discuss advances in breast imaging, early detection, and surgical care.

“Breast cancer care isn’t one moment or one specialty. It begins with screening and early detection and continues through diagnosis, treatment, recovery, and support,” Rittenhouse-Puhak said. “Bringing these resources together gives our community an opportunity to learn about the entire continuum of breast care and to meet some of the people who are here to support them.”

Registration is required for the Lunch and Learn and the Evening with the Experts. To register visit wvumedicine.org/uniontown and look for the Pink Out page for more information.
