Vitalant issues call for blood donations
Every day, patients need lifesaving blood transfusions, and in times of disaster, that need can multiply. It’s the blood already donated before an emergency strikes that saves lives. During National Preparedness Month in September, Vitalant urges all eligible donors to give blood to help patients in any situation.
As the country marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and unity that defined that day. Here in Western Pennsylvania, near the Flight 93 National Memorial, donating blood is a meaningful way to honor those lost and help save lives in our communities today.
Donate blood with Vitalant between now and Sept. 11 to receive a Vitalant Flight 93 commemorative T-shirt as a thank you for your time and donation and in shared remembrance. All Vitalant Pennsylvania donation centers and participating community blood drives will offer the T-shirts while supplies last.
Donors of all blood types are vital to helping patients, especially those with the most-transfused type O. In an emergency, O-negative is what doctors reach for because there’s no time to determine a patient’s blood type, and O-positive can help patients with a positive blood type, more than 85% of the population.
