PennWest California hosting regional arts festival Wednesday
The California campus of PennWest University is teaming up with the Pittsburgh contemporary art museum the Mattress Factory for a regional arts festival Wednesday.
The free event, which is being called SWPA Art Bash, will be in Vulcan Hall and feature hands-on workshops, live demonstrations, alumni meet-and-greets, art exhibits, live music and more.
“This event is about creating opportunities for people to experience art in an accessible, interactive and community-centered way,” said Melissa Kuntz, assistant chair of PennWest’s Department of Visual and Performing Arts.
Throughout the day, participants can have hands-on creative experiences, including screen printing, blacksmithing, mosaics, puppet making and more. All workshop materials will be provided for free.
Artists and makers from Allegheny, Fayette, Greene, Washington and Westmoreland counties are expected to participate. Student artwork and regional exhibitions will be highlighted throughout the event, including award-winning work from the Avonworth High School art program.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For information, go online to pennwest.edu.
