Expired restaurant licenses will be up for auction
Twenty expired restaurant licenses are being auctioned by the state, and Washington and Greene counties each have one license available.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) is accepting bids through Oct. 5 at noon. Licenses available in this auction cannot be transferred across county lines. They may only be transferred to another municipality within the same county.
The minimum bid for each license is $25,000, and each bid must be accompanied by a bid surety of $5,000 or 5% of the total bid amount, whichever is higher, to avoid frivolous or underfunded bids.
The highest bidder will have up to 30 days to pay the PLCB and up to six months to submit an application for the license. If the payment is not received in a timely fashion, the second-highest bidder will have the opportunity to apply for the license.
Aside from Washington and Greene, other counties where licenses are available are Adams, Berks, Bucks, Cambria, Carbon, Crawford, Delaware, Jefferson, Lancaster, Lehigh, Luzerne, Lycoming, Monroe, Montgomery, Northampton, Schuylkill, Snyder and Wayne.
