A Ringgold Middle School student is using the Washington County Agricultural Fair market livestock sale to help a friend who is battling leukemia.

Rosalie Cox, 13, is showing her market goat on Friday, and she plans to donate 100% of the money she receives to 11-year-old Michael Toth, a fellow member of the Ginger Inn 4-H Club who was diagnosed with leukemia earlier this year.

Cox said she wanted to show her support for her friend.

“I wanted him to know he’s not alone in his fight,” said Cox, who has spent months raising and caring for the goat, Didums.

Michael’s grandmother, Sue Toth, a member of the Washington County Agricultural Fair Board, was moved by Cox’s efforts to support her grandson.

“Our family was overwhelmed when we found out what Rosalie is doing,” said Toth. “The outpouring of support from the community has been amazing, and what Rosalie is doing is so wonderful. She is a sweet and thoughtful girl. For kids to do something like this for other kids is so much more than you could ever imagine.”

Cox has ben a member of the Ginger Inn 4-H Club for about five years, and struck up a friendship with Michael, who is in the Belle Vernon School District.

Cox’s Mom, Courtney Cox, is proud of Rosalie’s motivation to help a friend in need.

“She is a very caring and thoughtful girl, and we’re very proud of her,” said Cox. “Michael has a challenging road ahead of him, and when Rosalie found out what he was going through, she immediately wanted to do something to help.”

Michael is the son of Mike Toth, a Washington County 911 telecommunications officer, a firefighter and EMT, and Casey, a nurse.

Michael, who enjoys baseball and football in addition to 4-H, is showing market lambs at the fair this week. He is undergoing treatment at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.

Said Rosalie’s mother, “I hope she raises lots and lots of money for Michael.”

The market goat sale will be held at 6 p.m. Friday.
