Greene board seeking $1.8M grant for Nemacolin sewer project

The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved applying for more than $1.8 million in grant funding Thursday to fix aging infrastructure in the Nemacolin sewer system and treatment plant. The board submitted the request for 2025 Community Development Block Grant funding on behalf of Cumberland Township. At a meeting last year on the grant request, township and sewer system officials said the century-old terracotta lines are showing signs of wear and tear, and are being invaded by root systems. Operations have been suspended for the rest of the week for District Judge Eric G. Porter after his Charleroi office was condemned Wednesday.
