State police respond to more than 1,000 crashes over New Year’s

State police responded to 1,098 crashes across Pennsylvania during its New Year’s enforcement period. Between Dec. 31 and Jan. 4, there were also 378 drivers arrested for driving under the influence. State police did not provide statistics for individual troops or counties. According to the state police report, there were three crashes that killed three people over the five-day period. There were also 4,377 speeding tickets issued, 508 citations for failure to wear a seat belt and 60 for not securing children in safety seats. Monday, Jan. 26, marks the opening of the nation’s 2026 tax filing season, according to the Internal Revenue Service. Taxpayers have until Wednesday, April 15, to file their 2025 tax returns and pay any tax due. Man arrested in Greene County stabbing

A Waynesburg man allegedly used a buck knife to stab another man at a Greene County home. Waynesburg police found Brian Willard with uncontrolled bleeding to the left side of his stomach after Christopher Noble, 44, stabbed him on Thursday, court paperwork alleged. An officer waited with Willard until an ambulance arrived to take him to UPMC Greene. His condition was not immediately available.
