Bradford House seeks students for annual poster contest

The Bradford House Historical Association is holding its annual Student History Poster Contest for intermediate/middle school and high school students. The contest is open to all middle school students (grades 5 to 8) and high school students (9 to 12), including those enrolled in public, parochial, cyber and home-school programs. Eligible students must reside in Washington, Fayette, Greene, Allegheny or Westmoreland counties. Students are asked to research a topic of Western Pennsylvania history between 1750 and 1850. Greene County man accused of assaulting his child

A Carmichaels man is accused of hitting his 3-month-old child multiple times. The child’s mother reported Ezra Jones, 26, to Cumberland Township police last month when she spotted numerous marks on the baby after Jones cared for him, according to his criminal complaint. Police said videos provided by the mother showed Jones approaching the child’s crib and striking the child before again reaching into the crib, both times followed by the sound of crying. According to the complaint, Jones then looked back at the camera before reaching into the crib again several times. State police respond to more than 1,000 crashes over New Year’s

State police responded to 1,098 crashes across Pennsylvania during its New Year’s enforcement period. Between Dec. 31 and Jan. 4, there were also 378 drivers arrested for driving under the influence. State police did not provide statistics for individual troops or counties. According to the state police report, there were three crashes that killed three people over the five-day period. There were also 4,377 speeding tickets issued, 508 citations for failure to wear a seat belt and 60 for not securing children in safety seats.
