Due to an inclement weather forecast for Saturday, a Memorial Day ceremony rededicating a memorial to Civil War bugler John Ross Dunn at the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek, Greene County, has been postponed. The ceremony will be rescheduled for a later date, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) announced Thursday. Dunn served as bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds.” Buglers played a vital role on the battlefield, transmitting orders and signals that guided troop movements during combat. A Greene County man was killed by falling rock in a mine accident Tuesday night. Zachary Wolfe, 34, of Rices Landing, died in the 10 p.m. accident at the Bailey Mine in Aleppo Township, the Greene County Coroner’s Office said in a statement Wednesday. An investigation by Pennsylvania State Police determined Wolfe was fatally injured after being crushed by 1,000 pounds of rock. The accident occurred about 700 feet underground, where a rib failure occurred on a sidewall while Wolfe was putting up roof supports, said Trooper Kalee Barnhart.
