The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) will conduct a solemn Memorial Day ceremony honoring John Ross Dunn, bugler of the 22nd Pennsylvania Cavalry, known as “The Ringgolds,” at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Ruff Creek. The ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, and is open to the public. It was rescheduled from last week due to inclement weather. SCI-Fayette inmate found dead in cell

There was no sign of foul play in the death of an SCI-Fayette inmate, the state police said in a news release Tuesday. The body of Lavell Jones, 55, was found alone in his locked cell around 9:27 p.m. May 21, police said. The county coroner’s office released the body to a funeral home. Fayette County Coroner Dr. Bob Baker said Wednesday that typically occurs in cases in which the person is elderly or has known health issues that make an autopsy unnecessary. In a written response, the SCI-Fayette superintendent’s office declined to comment on Jones’ health prior to his death, citing the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. It referred questions to state police ...

Several of the devices contained videos of the child or another victim, who was an adult, the complaint said. ...

Pennsylvania utility regulators are warning consumers to prepare for higher electric bills this summer as new electricity generation prices take effect June 1. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission said all PUC-regulated electric utilities across the state will adjust their “Price to Compare,” or default electricity supply rate, just as summer temperatures and air-conditioning use begin increasing electricity demand across Pennsylvania. The combination of rising electricity supply costs and heavier summer usage could significantly increase monthly utility bills for many households, officials said. "While June 1 generation price adjustments may increase supply costs for many ...

OP-ED: Changing the direction of U.S. labor

Memorial Day, a day set aside to honor fallen veterans, is a red letter day for American labor - literally. On Memorial Day 1937, union blood was spilled in Chicago, when 10 were killed and nearly a hundred protesters were injured during a steelworkers' strike rally. It was a tragic, ...
