What's closed for Memorial Day

Federal, state, county and municipal offices will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day. There will be no mail delivery and financial markets will be closed. The Herald-Standard will not publish a print edition.

State police investigating electrocution in Fayette

State police said a man who appeared to have been attempting to take electrical wire was electrocuted in Fayette County Friday morning. The Fayette County coroner’s office was called to the scene near Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church on Laurel Hill Road in Dunbar Township shortly after 7 a.m. Aaron Cottrell, 32, of Scottdale, was pronounced dead from an accidental electrocution, according to a release from the coroner’s office. At the time of the incident, Cottrell had a pole saw and a backpack, and appeared to have been attempting to remove wire from active electrical lines, state police said in a release. J-M student accused of assaulting classmate

Charges are being prepared against a Jefferson-Morgan High School student accused of assaulting a classmate Friday morning, the Pennsylvania State Police said. Superintendent Dr. Brandon Robinson said Friday the victim’s mother had picked him up at the school and taken him to the hospital. “The student was examined by our nurse, who determined there was no ambulance needed, but the mom could pick him up, and she suggested that he seek medical treatment,” he said.
