Dispose of household chemicals at collection event

In June, Pennsylvania Resources Council (PRC) will host three household chemical collection events in western Pennsylvania to enable area residents to conveniently dispose of materials such as cleaners, paints, batteries, automotive fluids, e-cigarettes/vapes and pesticides. Events will be held Saturday, June 13, at the Fayette County Recycling Convenience Center, Uniontown, and Saturday, June 27, at EQT Park, Washington. State police investigating electrocution in Fayette

State police said a man who appeared to have been attempting to take electrical wire was electrocuted in Fayette County Friday morning. The Fayette County coroner’s office was called to the scene near Laurel Hill Presbyterian Church on Laurel Hill Road in Dunbar Township shortly after 7 a.m. Aaron Cottrell, 32, of Scottdale, was pronounced dead from an accidental electrocution, according to a release from the coroner’s office. At the time of the incident, Cottrell had a pole saw and a backpack, and appeared to have been attempting to remove wire from active electrical lines, state police said in a release. Fayette County commissioners OK energy audit

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously Thursday to enter into an agreement for a comprehensive assessment of county facilities to see where their energy efficiency could be improved. The audit agreement with the Harrisburg-based McClure Company will look at potential energy conservation measures and infrastructure improvements, as well as project costs and potential savings, according to materials provided by the board. J-M student accused of assaulting classmate

Charges are being prepared against a Jefferson-Morgan High School student accused of assaulting a classmate Friday morning, the Pennsylvania State Police said. Superintendent Dr. Brandon Robinson said Friday the victim’s mother had picked him up at the school and taken him to the hospital. “The student was examined by our nurse, who determined there was no ambulance needed, but the mom could pick him up, and she suggested that he seek medical treatment,” he said.
