Porter's office closed as search for new office continues

Operations have been suspended for the rest of the week for District Judge Eric G. Porter after his Charleroi office was condemned Wednesday. A water line break collapsed ceilings and flooded the building at 416 Fallowfield Ave., rendering the structure uninhabitable. A search is underway for a new location for Porter to conduct business. Borough Manager Joe Manning suggested using the borough building at 338 Fallowfield Ave. as a temporary location at council's meeting Wednesday. Councilman Larry Celaschi said such a move had been attempted in the past, but insurance issues arose, including the lack of a separate entrance for the office. The steps also posed a problem. Celaschi ...

Greene board seeking $1.8M grant for Nemacolin sewer project

The Greene County Board of Commissioners approved applying for more than $1.8 million in grant funding Thursday to fix aging infrastructure in the Nemacolin sewer system and treatment plant. The board submitted the request for 2025 Community Development Block Grant funding on behalf of Cumberland Township. At a meeting last year on the grant request, township and sewer system officials said the century-old terracotta lines are showing signs of wear and tear, and are being invaded by root systems. At Thursday’s meeting, the board also approved a right-of-way plan for replacing Greene County Bridge 103, located on Walker Road in Morris Township. It also approved a declaration of ...

The Charleroi office of District Judge Eric G. Porter was condemned Wednesday, forcing the magistrate and his staff to find a new location. Borough Manager Joe Manning said a water leak in the building at 416 Fallowfield Ave. made the space uninhabitable. “The pipes may have frozen overnight,” Manning said. Extensive damage included collapsed ceilings and water on the floor and in the basement of the structure, prompted the borough code enforcement officer to condemn the building. West Penn Power was contacted, and electric service was shut off. A notice was placed on the door that the building had been condemned. Borough officials have been in contact with Porter and reached ...
